Nome Botanico: Curcuma longa.

Famiglia: Zingiberaceae.

Breve Descrizione: Pianta arbustiva, sempreverde, perenne; può raggiungere il metro d'altezza circa. I fiori sono a spiga, bianchi o gialli; le foglie sono lunghe, lanceolate, leggermente rigide, lucide, di colore verde chiaro. Possiede un caratteristico rizoma carnoso di colore giallo che con il passare del tempo si allarga e forma dei grossi cespi. La sua coltivazione è abbastanza semplice.

Durata: Perenne.

Periodo Di Fioritura: I fiori sono circondati da foglie modificate di colore rosa e verdi che assomigliano ai petali di un fiore normale.

Area Di Origine: Asia meridionale, Australia, India , Indonesia.

Clima: Tropicale.

Uso: Pianta d'appartamento; dove il clima lo consente è possibile porre a dimora, in esterni, il rizoma. In ogni caso in autunno è necessario dissotterarlo e portarlo al riparo.
