Breve Descrizione: Si tratta di grandi arbusti o piccoli alberi, originari delle zone temperato-calde dell'emisfero boreale. Le foglie sono caduche, alternate, ovate, lunghe 3–13 cm. I fiori sono raggruppati in larghe e aperte panicles terminali lunghe 15–30 cm, con l'aspetto di un soffice piumino grigio-marrone assomigliante ad una nuvola di fumo sopra la pianta, da cui il nome. Il frutto è una piccola drupa con un unico seme. In passato è stato spesso attribuito al genere Rhus, da cui si distingue per le foglie semplici (non pennate) e per i fiori con l'aspetto fumoso.

Durata: Perenne.

Periodo Di Fioritura: Tra giugno e luglio.

Area Di Origine: Emisfero Boreale.

Clima: Temperato caldo.

Uso: I sommacchi sono popolari arbusti ornamentali da giardino. Sono state selezionate diverse cultivars di C. Coggygria a foglie color bronzo o porpora, che contrastano con le infiorescenze rosa intenso; la più comune in commercio è la Royal Purple.

Brief Description: These are large shrubs or small trees, originating in the warm-temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. The leaves are deciduous, alternate, ovate, 3-13 cm long. The flowers are grouped in broad, open terminal panicles 15-30 cm long, with the appearance of a soft gray-brown down jacket resembling a cloud of smoke over the plant, hence the name. The fruit is a small drupe with a single seed. In the past it has often been attributed to the genus Rhus, which is distinguished by its simple leaves (not pinnate) and for flowers with the look smoky.

Area of Origin: Northern Hemisphere.

Climate: Temperate warm.

Use: The sumac shrubs are popular ornamental garden. You select several cultivars of C. Coggygria leafed bronze or purple, which contrast with the deep pink inflorescences; the most common on the market is the Royal Purple.
