Hanno il fusto generalmente corto, contorto, ramificato, ricoperto in basso dai residui squamosi delle foglie morte, che porta alla sommità un ciuffo di foglie larghe a forma di ventaglio, in continuo rinnovamento, sostenute da lunghi piccioli spinosi o tubercolati; formate da numerosi e lunghi segmenti rigidi, lanceolati, incisi, i fiori sono portati da infiorescenze a pannocchia, i frutti sono drupe giallo-rossicce.

Durata: Perenne.

Periodo Di Fioritura: Tra primavera ed estate.

Area Di Origine: Mediterraneo Occidentale.

Clima: Temperato caldo.
