Breve Descrizione: Arbusto di dimensioni medio grandi, originario dell’Australia; da alcuni anni questa specie è stata divisa in due varietà: ericifolia e emacrantha, che ha infiorescenze leggermente più grandi della precedente. Si tratta di arbusti vigorosi e rustici, a crescita rapida, che raggiungono in pochi anni i 3-4 metri di altezza, infatti in Australia vengono spesso utilizzati nelle siepi. Il fogliame è di piccole dimensioni, sempreverde, di colore verde grigiastro, a forma di piccoli aghi, ricoperto da una sottile peluria. Dalla primavera inoltrata fino all’estate produce innumerevoli infiorescenze di grandi dimensioni, a forma di pannocchie erette, alte fino a 25-30 cm, di colore giallo o arancione; le infiorescenze di Banksia hanno una caratteristica forma, simile a quella dei fiori del callistemon. Una volta appassiti i fiori sulla pianta rimangono i frutti, delle specie di pigne dure, di colore vere, che contengono i semi. Questi grandi arbusti hanno un aspetto molto decorativo ed esotico, e nonostante questo ben si adattano ai giardini europei.
