· Henrietta Sarah’s
granddaughter thinks all the portraits are by Francis Edgar Dodd RA (1874-1949), a notable British portrait
and landscape artist and printmaker · she comments
“she had 3 sons in quick succession, then the longed for daughter, before
producing yet another son – Edna was pretty and delicate, at least in her
Mother's eyes, and could be dressed in pretty clothes, so it is logical she
had more portraits painted of her!” – so they were possibly made before her
marriage in 1915 · the inscription
at the bottom of D631 says “Her Smile is as
a listening Child’s who
hears its Mother’s call.” so perhaps this
photo(?) was prepared after her death |

him a sum of money as long as he didn't smoke or drink until he was over 21 -
I think he managed the smoking one, but admitted to 'having' to drink socially
when he was at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge - he would certainly NOT have
been smoking in front of Henrietta Sarah!” – he was 19½ in these photos |

above, and especially if the miniatures date from the 1920’s, it is more
probable that it was ALFRED GODFREE (1856-1928) |
