Edgar Sydney’s son says: I was the one responsible for taking my Father to Ireland on three occasions, the first two with Molly and were combined holidays/family visits. The first was in a car hired in Dublin in which we toured the southern half of Ireland (it had to be driven in 3rd gear for 20 miles to Cork to get a large split pin in the gear change mechanism replaced) The second was in my lovely Renault Dauphine touring the northern half (including Ulster before the troubles) The car finished up on the scrapheap a year later after the bottom rusted through - it was only 5/6 years old.

I also took my father over after Molly’s death whilst he was living with me in Woodmansterne, he was in late 80’s and it was the first and only time he travelled on a jet plane. (The previous occasion he flew was during WW1 as a passenger in a bi-plane and in his RFC days – What he was doing up there as a cook I don’t know!)
