William
Shatner, nato il 22 marzo 1931 a Montreal, in Canada, debuttò in teatro
in Tamburlaine, mentre il suo esordio cinematografico avvenne con
il ruolo di co-protagonista nel film I fratelli Karamazov. Shatner
continuò a recitare anche in teatro, e a New York fu il protagonista del Mondo
di Suzie Wong, dove venne notato da Gene Roddenberry che lo scelse per
il ruolo del Capitano Kirk per la prima serie televisiva di Star Trek.
L'elenco
dei film e dei telefilm a cui ha preso parte è lunghissimo. Ricordiamo
tra tutti la serie TV "T.J. Hooker" e il film L'aereo più
pazzo del mondo, sempre più pazzo, mentre tra i suoi lavori più
recenti figura Rescue 911.
Al
suo attivo Shatner ha anche numerose regie teatrali, tra le quali La
gatta sul tetto che scotta, in cui recitava la sua seconda moglie
Marcy Lafferty. Le sue imprese "sul ponte di comando" includono
anche il quinto film della saga, Star Trek: L'Ultima Frontiera, per
il quale ha scritto il soggetto e collaborato alla stesura della
sceneggiatura. Ha debuttato come scrittore di fantascienza con il libro Tek
War, che ha dato origine a una vera e propria saga che comprende altri
libri (tra cui due trilogie sulle avventure del capitano Kirk), telefilm e
fumetti. La sua passione sono i cavalli da corsa e alcuni campioni del suo
allevamento hanno vinto in passato prestigiosi premi ai concorsi ippici.
