Huntington Beach State Park, not far from Myrtle Beach, is renowned as the state`s hottest hotspot, with abundant shorebirds, many waterfowl and landbirds, and good opportunities for observing marsh and ocean specialties; recent visitors have included White Wagtail and Smith`s Longspur
This ancient forest hosts a great abundance of woodpeckers of every eastern species, formerly even including the Ivory-billed; Red-cockaded still nests in one part of the park, as does Swainson`s Warbler
A ten minute drive will put you on Scenic Highway Route 11, where you can antique shop in the historic town of Walhalla, hike in the mountains of Table Rock and Oconee State Parks, bird watch on top of Caesar`s Head or enjoy boating on Lake Jocassee at Devils Fork, Lake Keowee or Lake Hartwell

National seashore areas fall under the general rules of other national parks and forests but can have some site-specific time of year restrictions for certain areas to be protective of sensitive plants and wildlife
State and County beaches generally follow the rules of the State or County Park system, although there are a few exceptions
The lists generally include dog regulations for all sorts of parklands, nationwide and some include links to the web sites of the various state and federal management agencies so you can confirm the current status of dog regulations
STATE BEACH/PARK COMMENTS ME Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park Pets are allowed in all park locations except Sand Beach, Echo Lake Beach, Isle au Haut campground, ladder trails and inside public buildings
ME State Parks Dogs are allowed in most state parks, but are excluded specifically from Crescent Beach, Outlet Beach, Scarborough Beach (and several upland parks)
NH State Parks No dogs allowed on NH State Park beaches except as noted below
MA State Parks Dogs allowed on lead in all state parks with the significant exceptions of Gallop Island, George's Island, Halibut Pt., South Cape Beach (as well as some inland sites)
