Frank Miller aveva avuto una prima (traumatica) esperienza cinematografica all'inizio degli anni Novanta, quando aveva scritto i soggetti del secondo e terzo episodio della saga di Robocop
Non esattamente due successi commerciali, ancor meno artistici, i film di Kershner e Dekker hanno finito per allontanare Miller da Hollywood, convincendolo soprattutto a rifiutare per un decennio di concedere i diritti per l'adattamento dei propri fumetti (ovviamente, però, Miller non possiede i diritti delle sue storie di Batman e Devil )
Alla fine del 2001, Miller si era messo a lavorare ad un adattamento cinematografico di Ronin e a collaborare con Darren Aronofsky (regista del bellissimo Requiem for a Dream ) sul nuovo film di Batman, che sarà invece realizzato da Christopher Nolan con un diverso script
