Tour map - CLICK TO ENLARGEClick to see the ROADBOOKAs you probably understood, the Company for which I'm working is going to be shut down during the week between the Easter Eve and the 25th of April ( the WWII end here in Italy) ... Let's better say that the Company is going to be definetely shut down, shortly !!!
But let's forget about it !!!!
Yesterday I had an 'assolo' tour to the Monferrrato.
Today, when I get out of the bed, at 08,00 the weather is nice, notwithstanding the forecast of yesterday evening; so I take advantage of being a newcomer in the mobile phones world ... I call my colleague Alessio ( who, by sure is still sleeping !):
"Hey, Alessio ... why not a motorbike tour ??"
"Oh .. yawn ... yes but where ?" "I don't know yet ... but let's meet in front of the office, by 09,30 ..."
So, at 09,30, I'm am in front of the office, greeting the few colleagues forced to work ... and between them Rafael: he is a real motorbiker, and, my god, I forgot to invite him !!!! Waiting for Alessio, I have a coffe with Rafael, trying to justify myself ...
Alessio arrives few minutes later: in the meanwhile I made my mind about the tour, which I explain in few words to Alessio ... we are late and we leave on the spot.
We cross Milano, with the usual heavy traffic, and enter the Hiway towards the Malpensa Airport. Then we take the road, in the dark woods, to Somma Lombardo; I remeber there is a very nice road going to Varallo Pombia ( I spent my 'army duty' in the nearby !) ... it still exists, and it's really nice !
Then the narrow, trafficked road to Arona, where we stop for a cigarette ... and Alessio has time to take few pictures ...
ARONA - Click to enlargeARONA - The ROCCA D' ANGERA - Click to enlargeARONA - The ROCCA D' ANGERA - Click to enlargeARONA - Click to enlargeArona, and the "Rocca di Angera"
A due stop, for a cigarette and to enjoy the landscape !

The 'SAN CARLONE' -Click to enlargeJust outside Arona, there is the road junction leading to the Ghevio and 'Alto Vergante'.
After few km's you are astonished by the bronze statue of the 'Cardinal Carlo Borromeo', a XVII century bishop of Milano ! The statue is commonly known as the "San Carlone" ( The 'Big Saint Charles' ).

BROVELLO - Click to enlargeBROVELLO - Click to enlargeWe then reach Gevio: we are in the Alto Vergante a nice road, no traffic, high over the Lago Maggiore. The next time I'll take few minutes to stop in Massino Visconti, a really nice village; this time we stopped in Brovello, attacted by the old church, to take few pictures ... and smoke a cigarette !!!

... and to learn that from this small village the 'umbrella makers' were spreading in the world .... there is still a monument to their entrpeneur life.

ALPINO - GIGNESE a view on the Lago Maggiore - Click to enlarge Back on the saddle a police car refrain us from a 'ride fast ride safe' pace ... just ride safe ! It's a pity, because this road, which is bringing us to Carpugnino, it's a road for motorbikers ! But even better the road that leads to Gignese !!!! Then the road to the Mottarone becomes a narrow, snaking one ... not wider then a single car .... again a stop in Alpino, to smoke a cigarette and to take a shot ...
And in few minutes we arrive at the Paytoll Station ... yes, to go to the Mottarone, from Gignese, you have to pay: 2,50 Euro per motorbike !
But it's quite worthwhile ! The road, in the woods, is fantastic .... but for the paving, suffering the winter icing !

And eventually we are on the Mottarone: the Monte Rosa, the Dom, the Weißmies, the Monte Leone are in front of you !!!!
And if you look with attention, you may even see the Matterhorn ( il Cervino ) ... the third picture ... !!!!

So, we stop here, for a  lunch, at the:
Casa della Neve Restaurant

And the road going down to Armeno ???? FANTASTIC !!!!!!

Fantastic as the old XI Century Church in Armeno ... stop by there !!!

No words ... stop by, and have a look !!!!

But it's time to leave ... and the FANTASTIC road from Armeno to Gignese ...a typical 'ride fast - ride safe' road !

And then down, to Stresa ... and the blossoming lake ...

A 'fast riding' back to Arona, where we stop for a gin-tonic and to take the last picture ...

.... And eventually back home, where I have to wipe out the 'evening mosquitos' from the windshield ...
