Macchina a mano, colori sgranati, respiro da B-movie, Wolof Creek vede protagonisti un ragazzo e due ragazze che decidono di trascorrere tre settimane nel deserto australiano
Nel corso del viaggio, ne approfittano per andare a vedere Wolf Creek, un cratere causato da un meteorite
Wolf Creek ha squarci da cinema sperimentale, con la luce che sembra fuoriuscire dai contorni dei corpi e degli oggetti ed espandersi in tutta linquadratura, segno questo di una costruzione dellimmagine e di un uso del colore in cui si avvertono delle influenze figurative
Dalla rivelazione del criminale in poi, Wolf Creek procede con effetti shock già abusati, che magari provocano istantaneo terrore, ma che McLean li riutilizza schematicamente: luomo che tenta di colpire con il coltello una delle due ragazze, il tentativo di fuga, la furia omicida che si abbatte con occhi terrorizzati che vedono dita delle mani che schizzano, mani che cercano di divincolarsi da chiodi
