Where the controline was born
A visit to the "Jim Walker" Museum
In
1940, Neville "Jim" Walker gave us our
much loved control line flying, and established the innovative American-Junior
Aircraft Co.: FIREBALL, FIRECAT, FIREBRAT, FIREBABY, A-J
HORNET where some of the planes kitted by this factory that became
legendary in C/L history.
Not
everyone knows that A-J Co. still exists, and thanks to the devotion and the
competence of Frank Macy, a lot of original
airplanes, engines, kits, and documents, are preserved in a private Museum in
Portland, Oregon, where Control Line was born.
In
November, 2002, our great friend (and master modeller) Jim
Duckworth went there, met Frank after 20+ years of correspondence, and
took some photo's during his visit to the the museum. He was kind enough to
allow us to post some of his pictures on our website, to enable you to see more
original Fireballs than you are likely to see in your entire life...

Nel 1940 il leggendario Neville "Jim" Walker ci donò il sistema del Volo Vincolato, e fondò la American-Junior Aircraft Co., un'azienda che si impose per l'innovatività dei prodotti e dei materiali: FIREBALL, FIRECAT, FIREBRAT, FIREBABY, A-J HORNET furono i nomi di alcuni dei modelli prodotti in kit da questa azienda e divenuti un mito nella storia del Vincolato.
Ma non tutti sanno che la A-J Co. esiste ancora, e - grazie alla costanza e alla competenza di Frank Macy - una gran massa di modelli, motori, kit e documenti sono stati salvati dalla dispersione dopo la scomparsa di Jim e conservati in un Museo privato a Portland, Oregon - dove nacque il Vincolato.
Nel novembre 2002 il nostro amico (nonchè importante modellista) Jim Duckworth si è recato lì, ha incontrato - dopo più di 20 anni di corrispondenza - Frank, e ha scattato alcune foto durante la visita al Museo. E' stato anche così gentile da consentirci di pubblicarle qui, così potrete vedere tanti Fireball originali quanti mai ne vedrete in vita vostra...
