U2 performs at the 48th annual Grammy Awards. The band brings its own light show for 'Vertigo,' which features the swirling red designs used during the Vertigo Tour. 'One' is performed with Mary J. Blige, and features the Zoo TV tour's video animations showing the word 'one' on the screen in different languages. Later in the ceremony, Edge takes part in an all-star musical tribute to the artists and sounds of New Orleans, performing with the likes of Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, and others. As for the awards, U2 wins all five categories in which its nominated and Steve Lillywhite also wins Producer of the Year.

Early in the day, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos gives Bono a traditional Chilean instrument called a Charango. Shortly before the show, Bono visits with relatives of political dissidents who disappeared during the rule of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. That all comes together during tonight's concert when Bono and Edge -- playing the Charango -- perform Mothers of the Disappeared for the first time since U2's last show in Chile in 1998. Bono toasts 'the new Chile' with champagne at the end of the show. Lagos and President-elect Michelle Bachellet are in attendance.

U2 returns to Argentina for the first time in 8 years. Tonight's show is filmed with 8 high-definition 3D camera rigs for an expected IMAX film release. Before Elevation, Bono takes a piece of paper from a fan, makes a paper airplane, and throws it to the crowd. Some in the crowd follow suit, making and throwing paper airplanes. The show ends with a big surprise, as Love Is Blindness is played for the first time since the end of the Zoo TV tour in December, 1993.

Since the Elevation Tour never reached these shores, U2 adds 'Walk On' and 'Kite' into the setlist as a taste of what fans missed in 2001. The 2nd encore opens with a cover of 'The Saints Are Coming.' Several familiar elements remain in the show, including snippets of 'Johnny Comes Marching Home' and 'Hands That Built America' during 'Bullet.'
