Bono sings a bit of two Frank Sinatra songs during 'Until the End of the World' -- Sinatra died 13 years ago today. Just like the prior show, a fan comes on stage to read a poem by the ancient Mexican poet Nezahualcoyotl before the band plays Beautiful Day. With both Zooropa and Stay being played tonight, it's the first show since Dec. 10, 1993 to have multiple songs from the Zooropa album in the setlist. Mexican President Felipe Calderon is at the show, and live-tweets a photo from his skybox near the end of the concert.

U2 does a dress rehearsal for what appeared to be about 500 people, made up of corporate guests and participants/members of Special Olympics - Colorado. Bono makes a lengthy, sometimes funny speech during 'Until the End of the World' about the rumors and reports that tomorrow actually will be the end of the world. There's a new video that plays after the main set and before 'One,' replacing the traditional Desmond Tutu clip. Several dozen fans listen to the show outside the stadium.

Comments:

U2 returns to the U.S. after last year's tour was postponed due to Bono's back injury. Bono tells the crowd that his surgery was a year ago today, and praises the German doctors who took care of him. With claims of a rapture happening today dominating the news, Bono plays up the theme a bit during Until The End Of The World. There are a number of new elements in the show, including a video of Aung San Suu Kyi that plays in the first encore break before One. All four band members come out in jackets with flashing lights during City Of Blinding Lights. Rather than Amazing Grace, Bono sings and plays a bit of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow before Streets. Bono dedicates Moment of Surrender to Josh Green, a local ONE Campaign member who died in 2009.

The Royal Canadian Air Force does a flyover shortly before the show starts. The fan-read poem before Beautiful Day this time is actually the lyrics to You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet by Winnipeg's Bachman Turner Overdrive. At the end of the main set, Bono leads the crowd in singing Happy Birthday for Amnesty International, which is 50 years old this year. Although Moment of Surrender is on the printed setlist, the show ends after With or Without You.

It rains a bit during the show, prompting Bono to sing a bit of Singin' In The Rain. U2 plays well past the rumored 11 pm curfew in Edmonton. Bono dedicates Moment of Surrender to victims of the recent fires in Slave Lake, Alberta. Edmonton Oiler hockey player Gilbert Brule is at the show as Bono's guest, after Brule picked up a hitchhiking Bono in Vancouver a day earlier.

A new video debuts before Beautiful Day. Kelly then reappears again later in the song on the video screen, and recites the bridge lyrics ('See the world in green and blue,' etc.) Members of Pearl Jam, R.E.M and Heart are at the show. Also at the show is one of Aung San Suu Kyi's sons.

Other celebrities in attendance include Rick Rubin, Tom Morello, and Cindy Crawford. Before Moment of Surrender, Bono pays tribute to E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who died earlier today: 'Think about one man's saxophone. U2 plays the Glastonbury Festival for the first time. During the show, Bono sings several lines from 'Jerusalem', a song based on William Blake's poem, And Did Those Feet In Ancient Times. The Fly includes the full Zoo TV tour visuals, as do Mysterious Ways and One. Astronaut Mark Kelly appears on video before Beautiful Day as he's done on the 360 tour. Bono snippets The Beatles, The Clash and Coldplay. They also revisit Live Aid, playing Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bad together, and even Pride next - the song they were supposed to play at Live Aid. U2, especially Bono, gives this performance everything, and the crowd responds in kind. By the end, it seems U2 has won the night.

Comments:

U2 plays Nashville for the first time since Dec. 1981. Bono sings a bit of The Wanderer with Edge playing quietly as he sings. It's the first time the song has been sung at a proper U2 concert, and was only performed once before - November 2, 2005, as part of a TV show taping in an empty Staples Center. At the end of the show, Bono brings a blind fan on stage who wants to play a song for his wife. The fan gets Bono's Gretsch 'Irish Falcon' guitar and starts playing All I Want Is You as Bono sings along. The rest of the band eventually joins in for a magical moment. When the song is over, Bono gives the fan the guitar to keep. Carrie Underwood, Michael W. Smith, OneRepublic and many other artists are at the show.

Bono dedicates Moment of Surrender to his former personal assistant Greg Carroll, who died 25 years ago this week. He sings a bit of it at the end of Moment, then strikes a deal with the crowd to play it in full, saying 'Here's the deal: If we screw it up really badly, you don't put it on the Internet.' The band then goes on to play a full version, much to the delight of fans at the show and online.

Later, he adds the 'shine like stars' coda at the end of With Or Without You -- and in a matter of minutes, the phrase 'shine like stars' is trending worldwide on Twitter. Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of

Comments:

Bono and The Edge are the sole interview guests on The Late Show with David Letterman. At the end of their appearance, while talking about songwriting, Edge grabs an acoustic guitar from behind his chair and he and Bono sing 'Stuck In A Moment' from their seats next to Letterman. While at the theatre, they also contribute to a skit that airs later in the week and involves both singing bits of I Still Haven't Found and Beautiful Day in a fake elevator.

Comments:

U2 plays two more songs than most shows and, at more than 2.5 hours long, this show is possibly the longest of the entire tour. Edge mistakenly begins to play a bit of Stuck In A Moment before realizing he should be playing Stay. Salman Rushdie is at the show. Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa are also there, but rumors of a guest appearance on stage never come to fruition. Bono dedicates Moment of Surrender to Clarence Clemons.

Somali pop star K'naan, whom Bono spoke with before the show about the famine in Somalia, joins the band on stage to sing Stand By Me for the people suffering in Somalia. Bono dedicates Stuck In A Moment to Amy Winehouse, who died earlier in the day. It rains throughout the show, prompting Bono to sing rain-related snippets at almost every opportunity.

Comments:

The final 360 tour show in the US ends with a bang. First, Bono brings two fans (Matt and Melissa) on stage during With Or Without You. He announces that they've been to 60 shows together and invites them to slow dance on stage during the whole song, which they do tenderly - making an amazing moment. After Moment of Surrender, the band huddles and U2 plays Bad for Andy Rowen, whom the song was originally written about in 1984 and who is at the show tonight. Rowen is brother of Bono's Lypton Village friend Guggi (Trevor Rowen) and Peter Rowen, who's on the cover of Boy and War. With a few snippets thrown in, the song runs for almost nine minutes.

Comments:

The U2 360 tour ends with three artists on the bill at the Magnetic Hill Music Festival in Eastern Canada. The three bands are spotted watching each other perform throughout the night. Bono sings a bit of 'The Ballad of Springhill' (AKA but incorrectly referred to as Springhill Mining Disaster sometimes) in honor of the nearby town devastated by an earthquake in 1958. It's the first time Bono's sung any of that song since 1987. The show concludes with a full-band version of 40, each member leaving the stage separately, with Larry last to go. The 360 tour ends as the most successful tour ever, grossing $736 million on sales of 7.2 million tickets.
