Gastronomy

At Cittanova and the whole Piana the olive-oil-production has always occupied an important part of the local economy. It seems that the first oil-mill of Cittanova was in use at the begin of the XIX century at Calvary, a quarter of Cittanova.

The age-old olive-trees are very big and still today, even if in a smaller measure compared to the past, due to the use of harvest-machines, there is in use the manual reap of the olives fallen down to earth.

The dried cod is a gastronomic speciality of Cittanova. It's quality is appreciated also because the water of Cittanova is very indicated for an optimal preparation of this fish.

Especially during spring and at the begin of summer on the local fish-market you can also find fresh thuna and swordfish which comes from the near sea.

Very good also the sweets.
