The grateful native-town dedicated a monument to its famous fellow-citizen Alessandro Volta who was one of the leading scientists of his time as well as square and one of its main streets, where thehouse he was born and raised in is located. His house is marked by a memorial tablet.
The statue, erected in 1838, shows Volta on the point of discovering the mysterious current of the electric battery.
The pedestral is adorned with basrelieves reproducing Volta's scientific discoveries and with the short but meaningful epigraph: "To Volta from his native land".
The monument was built by the sculptor P. Marchesi.
