late- and the Kelly video suddenly took its place...on my TV screen,
and in my life as well. It was then that my love affair with electronic
music started. And -like Kelly- I started watchin' the
stars...

ascoltato. Ci credereste?
Questa strana sonorità, stellata,
magica mi ha raggiunta, e colta di sorpresa, una notte... Stavo guardando
la TV -era molto tardi- e all'improvviso il video di Kelly è
apparso...sul mio schermo televisivo, e nella mia vita. E' stato allora
che è iniziato il mio love affair, la mia travolgente passione per
la musica elettronica. Ed è stato allora che ho iniziato -come Kelly-

-Biografia

Gli Air sono
Nicolas Godin e JB Dunckel. Entrambi francesi e più esattamente di
Versailles, i due musicisti si conoscono al tempo degli studi grazie anche
allo zampino di Alex Gopher, amico all'epoca di Dunckel con cui aveva
messo su una band. Autori di un sound dove sonorità dilatate, pop
sofisticato, amore per i sintetizzatori Moog e per l'elettronica anni
settanta si fondono insieme, gli Air esordiscono nel 1996 per la Mo Wax di
James Lavelle con un mix dal titolo Modulor (ispirato agli studi del
grande architetto francese Le Corbusier).
Dopo un paio di lavori uscti per l'etichetta francese Source gli Air
debuttano per la Virgincon il loro primo album Moon Safari. Nel 1999 esce
invece "Premiers symptomes" che contiene proprio alcuni dei
primi singoli usciti su Source come "Casanova '70", uno dei
pezzi più romantici dell'intero revival lounge.
"Virgin Suicide" colonna sonora dell'omonimo film di Sofia
Coppola (in Italia uscito nelle sale cinematograifiche con il nome
"Il giardino delle vergini suicide") rappresenta l'ultima loro
fatica discografica, caratterizzata da atmosfere musicali decisamente
pinkfloidiane.
Nel maggio del 2001 tornano alla carica con “10,000 Hz Legend”.
Descritto da molti come “puro genio” o “il Dark Side of The Moon
2001”, rappresenta il soud degli Air maturo, è dark, divertente e
minaccioso insieme. Il disco è stato registrato per la maggior parte a
Parigi, dopodiché la band si sposta a Los Angeles per aggiungere
arrangiamenti orchestrali su parecchie tracce. E’ lì che si incontrano
con Beck, loro vecchio amico, che contribuisce con la sua voce su “The
Vagabond” e fa spoken word su “Don’t Be Light”. Sugar e Yumiko di
Buffalo Daughter cantano su “Sex Born Poison”, mentre gli altri vocals
sono di JB e Nicolas. |

as James Woods, we realized that it was the opposite of what our image was."
