Undoubtedly, the greatest success story of the 60ies American automobile industry is the Mustang, Ford's speciality. Cars like this sporty two-door were originally considered to be for men. However, Mr. Jacocca, who is in charge of the development of the Mustang, has a personal idea of the way market trends are changed since America turned into the 60ies. He has noticed that the number of women drivers is rapidly increasing, and according to a market survey, they favor sporty and fashionable two-door cars. The Mustang is thought to be good enough to capture the hearts of all these woman drivers. At least, this is what Mr. Jacocca thought while working at the project. This is how the Mustang is aimed at a wider range of consumers including women and adults over the age of 35. Naturally, the Mustang's basic advertising concepts are changed in accordance with this; women begin to replace men in the forefront of the advertisements. Thus is born the Mustang; the sporty model that can even be driven to the supermarket. This fresh and slight surprise for the American public is in fact a harbinger of changing times. And, of course, the advertising campaign will be more fruitful than originally expected. It is hardly necessary to mention the success of the Mustang. This car made Mr. Jacocca, the son of Italian immigrants, into an American Hero by selling some 1,280,000 Mustangs in the first 21 months after hitting the market on April 17, 1964.
All new American cars have front seat belts standard.
The Lincoln Continental has "sucide doors".
Cadillac offers automatic climate control.
Chevrolet introduces its midsize Malibu.
Chrysler introduces a new high-powered sport version of the Hemi engine, the legendary 426 Hemi, with 425 horsepower. Richard Petty makes the 426 famous in his NASCAR racing. Only about 11,000 of the specialty engines will be built between 1964 and 1971. Car enthusiasts still consider the Hemi to be the ultimate internal combustion engine.
La Mustang, "speciality car" della Ford, senza dubbio il piu' grande successo dell'industria automobilistica americana degli anni '60, vede la luce quest'anno.
Automobili come questa due porte sportiveggiante vengono ancora, in questa prima meta' degli anni 60, considerate come destinate ad una clientela maschile; comunque Mr. Iacocca, il responsabile del progetto Mustang, ha le idee molto chiare su come le tendenze di mercato stiano cambiando.
Lee Iacocca ha notato che il numero delle donne al volante sta' crescendo molto rapidamente e che, secondo una recente indagine di mercato, preferiscono auto a due porte con un tono sportivo e alla moda. La Mustang quindi dovra' essere bella e sportiva al punto da fare irresistibilmente breccia nei cuori di queste guidatrici, o almeno questo e' quello che Mr. Iacocca ha pensato progettandola.
La Mustang, in quest'ottica, viene indirizzata ad un piu' vasto raggio di consumatori che include per l'appunto le donne e gli adulti sopra i 35 anni.
Conseguentemente, in occasione del lancio della Mustang, i concetti di base della pubblicita', vengono cambiati. Le donne cominciano a rimpiazzare gli uomini negli spot televisivi e sulle pagine patinate delle riviste.
Cosi' nasce la Mustang; il modello sportivo che puo' anche essere usato per andare al supermarket. Questa snella e fresca sorpresa per il pubblico americano e' in effetti un alfiere dei tempi che stanno cambiando e, naturalmente, la campagna pubblicitaria sara' piu' fruttuosa di quanto abbiano sperato i piu' ottimisti fra i dirigenti della Ford.
E' davvero necessario menzionare il successo della Mustang.
Quest'auto fara' di Mr. Iacocca, figlio di immigrati italiani, un simbolo del "Sogno Americano", vendendo qualcosa come 1.280.000 Mustangs nei primi 21 mesi dalla sua apparizione sul mercato, il 17 Aprile 1964.
La Lincoln Continental ha le "suicide doors", le portiere anteriori che si aprono in senso opposto a quelle posteriori. L'umoristico soprannome che acquistano in breve tempo e' dovuto evidentemente all'esperienza traumatica (fatta da piu' di qualcuno!) di chi, distratto, salendo o scendendo dall'auto, si e' trovato schiacciato tra due portiere!
Tutte le auto americane del 1964 montano le cinture di sicurezza anteriori di serie.
La Chevrolet introduce la "media" Malibu, come nuovo modello per il 1964.
Le Cadillac offrono il climatizzatore a controllo automatico.
Durante quest'anno la Chrysler presenta una nuova e massicciamente potenziata versione sportiva del leggendario motore Hemi. E' il mitico 426 Hemi, con 425hp.
Richard Petty rende universalmente famoso il motore 426 con le sue vittoriose gare nella formula NASCAR.
Solamente 11.000 di questi motori speciali verranno costruiti dal 1964 al 1971. Molti grandi appassionati considerano ancor oggi l'Hemi come l'apice insuperato della tecnica motoristica di tutti i tempi.

for its time. The short serves as a dramatized warning,
ending with graphic case studies. Unlike the driver's education
films produced by the same company, this film was apparently
issued for only a short time before being withdrawn.

This is a powerful and direct film, unforgettable for its eerieness, honesty, and simplicity. The acting and the technique may seem campy occasionally, but it works. The tape hiss screams for Dolby attention, and this film may actually deserve that kind of care in restoration.
It is told in two parts, the first being an unsettling story of child abduction and parental and neighborhood complacency that was only corrected after it was too late. The second part serves as a coda and explication for the first, giving direct advice to parents and making examples of the characters in the story.
Obviously, the filmmakers don't want you to take any of the this lightly. As such, the second part depicts a seedy suburb that seems to be crawling with predators on every corner. Its view is excessive, but chilling and hopefully mobilizing. It hides little when it comes to telling parents that it's their responsibility to tell their kids the sickening facts.
The ending of this film is probably why it got pulled. In a word, it's horrifying. The story of the first half seemed open-ended enough to put it out of your mind, but the filmmakers unforgettably implant the story into your mind when they tell you it was true. And they have pictures. Some interesting epoca cars sequences.

The American Automobile Timeline 1899-1970 - Multimedial Historical Collection (Over 1200 files)
We do provide duplicates of the multimedial files of the Collection on a customized DVD-ROM on a (1) cost-recovery basis.
Almost all the digital copies of the films are good quality Hi-Res editable videos.
All the videos in this Collection are available in different format, size and definition. We can suggest you the right one for the use you have in mind.
PRIVATE USE: home TV vision (DVD-Divx player), PC, iPod.
WE LICENSE FOOTAGE from our Collections for: multimedial creations on CD or DVD, TV commercials, film or TV programs, documentary Productions, web sites, marketing/ad campaigns, video email, electronic kiosks, trade shows, business seminars, cultural events, museums, expositions... and more.
Hi-Res videos from our Collections are available on DVD, CD or directly in your inbox. Clips and movies can also be downloaded from our servers using a PW or uploaded by us to your FTP.

(1) It is possible to obtain digital duplicates of the multimedial files (movies, videos, audio documents, and Virtual Reality files) from Romano-Archives for research, teaching, general interest user information, and private study purposes.
The fees charged for these files are on a cost-recovery basis.
The size, run-time, quality, and detailed informations regarding any multimedial file are indicated in the list inside our demo-DVD, where you can find images and/or animated gifs illustrating any file, 10 demo-videos, 2 for every different quality class, and 10 samples regarding the other kind of multimedial files composing the collection.
The files are available on a customized DVD-ROM.
Billing is done when the order is fulfilled. Payment instructions will follow. Normal turn around time for requests is 3 weeks. Rush (2-3 business days) is available for an additional fee of 40 Euros. Romano-Archives will provide up to 250 (or about 20% of this Collection) multimedial files to a single requesting party.

The multimedial files of the Collections are compatible with the free version of the most common players: Quicktime Player, Real Player, Windows Media Player.
Mac users can easily view MPEG 1, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, and Divx movies in MacOSX with the free version of this program: VLC Media Player.

Forniamo duplicati dei files multimediali della Collezione su DVD-ROM personalizzati sulla base di un mero recupero dei costi (1).
Quasi tutte le versioni digitalizzate dei filmati sono state realizzate in alta risoluzione, con la migliore qualità audio-video possibile e sono copie editabili (possono cioè essere tagliate ed usate per qualsiasi tipo di montaggio digitale).
I video in alta risoluzione delle nostre Collezioni sono disponibili su DVD, CD o direttamente via email. Film e video possono anche essere scaricati dai nostri server con una password o caricati da noi sul vostro FTP.
Tutti i video compresi in questa Collezione sono disponibili in differenti formati, dimensioni e livelli di risoluzione. Saremo lieti di suggerirvi il più adatto alle vostre esigenze: visione su TV (DVD-Divx player), PC o IPod.
Sono disponibili Licenze per pubblicazione sul Web o creazione di opere multimediali su CD o DVD, produzione di documentari, programmi televisivi, proiezioni pubbliche per istituzioni scolastiche o universitarie, eventi culturali (visione su monitor, anche in ripetizione automatica "loop mode"), musei, esposizioni ed altro.

Le dimensioni, la durata, la qualità, i contenuti ed ogni più dettagliata caratteristica dei files sono indicati in inglese in un completissimo elenco all'interno del nostro DVD-demo (comprendente immagini e/o gifs animate relative ad ogni singolo file, 10 filmati, 2 per ogni differente classe di qualità, e altri 10 esempi delle differenti tipologie di files multimediali presenti nella collezione). Ogni file dell'elenco è corredato da un breve riassunto dei contenuti in italiano.
I files sono disponibili su DVD-ROM personalizzati.
La richiesta di pagamento viene effettuata appena il vostro DVD è stato messo in ordine. Seguiranno le indicazioni su come effettuare il pagamento.
Il periodo normale di attesa per una spedizione è di circa tre settimane. Richieste di materiale storico con carattere di urgenza (2-3 giornate lavorative) vengono accettate dietro versamento di una somma extra di 40 Euro. Romano-Archives fornirà fino a un massimo di 250 (o circa il 20% della Collezione) files multimediali ad un singolo richiedente.

Molti dei filmati d'archivio in alta qualità sono in formato Divx o MPEG 1, MPEG 2, MPEG 4. Gli utenti Macintosh possono facilmente visionare questi filmati in MacOSX con la versione gratuita di questo programma: VLC Media Player.
I singoli files di materiale storico digitalizzato compresi nelle Collezioni sono Public Domain, quindi privi di alcun copyright. L'unico materiale soggetto a copyright sono gli articoli originali ed i vari testi pubblicati su questo Website, nonchè le compilations originali contenute nei CD o DVD distribuiti. Tutti i marchi che appaiono nei files appartengono ai legittimi proprietari.
