Total vehicle production in the United States: 7,905,000, or 47.9 percent of the world total of 16,488,000.
Total vehicle registration: 74.5 million.
Top speed for new cars is 120 mph; gasoline fuel efficiency is 15 miles per gallon.
The Big Three American car companies introduce compact cars to fight Volkswagen.
Eighty percent of U.S. families have cars.
Cadillacs offer self-adjusting brakes.
Buick changes only in grillework for 1960. In the early sixties Buicks will become more streamlined than before using frames of the "K" type (no X member) and of the "X" type (X shaped with no siderails).
After 33 years, production of the De Soto car line comes to an end over Christmas.
This year Chrysler introduces the 45 RPM automotive record changer with 14 record capacity.
American Motors discontinues production of the Nash line of automobiles.
After production of only 3000 Edsels, the Division is discontinued at the end of the year. Ford reportedly suffers a loss of $250 million.
Checker Motors Corporation begins building passenger cars, using the same design as its taxicabs.

La concept car dell'anno e' ancora una volta una Ford, la Neucleon.
Nel 1960 le Opel che la GM fabbrica in Germania danno alla Buick lo stimolo per iniziare gli studi per la produzione di auto piu' piccole.
All'inizio degli anni '60 le linee delle nuove Buick cominciano a tendersi e a squadrarsi, nello sforzo di adeguarsi alla moda imperante del cosiddetto stile "a saponetta".
La GM presenta tre nuove auto di dimensioni rimpicciolite rispetto ai correnti standard, che verranno pero' introdotte sul mercato come modelli per il 1961. Sono la Buick Special, la Oldsmobile F-85 e la Pontiac Tempest.
Il 9 novembre Robert McNamara viene eletto Company President della Ford Motor Company. Si dimettera' dopo poco piu' di un mese, il 12 dicembre, quando verra' nominato Secretario della Difesa dal neoeletto Presidente John F. Kennedy.

Very interesting Sid Davis movie about four boys, Robert, Paul, John and Bill, 4 friends who come across a convertible with the keys still in the ignition. From there, we see each of the boy's paths on his decision of whether to hop in or not.
John who is the leader of the pack, seems to get in trouble a lot with his (badly miscast) parents, and he got busted for curfew.
In the best scenario, Paul's motivations are also caused by his parental upbringing. Dad harangs him about getting a haircut because he's looking like a beatnik and, when Paul takes off for some airplane glue for his model airplane and leaves the baby he was supposed to care of alone, his father harangues him some more hilariously waving the plane around.
Bill is more a straight shooter, and doesn't go for it, he's called Chicken. And Robert goes for it, even though his parents love him so, got a great pool in the back yard, but doesnt want to be called chicken.
The whole thing ends predictably. The narration in the piece is by the same unforgiving drone narrator used in 'Boys Beware'.

Ford commercial linking new compact cars to futurism and the space frontier.
This short film introduced to the world the 1960 model Fords. And it's not so much an introduction as a society girl's debut. The three cars are in virginal white and surrounded by rich folks in formal dress singing about the "wonderful new world of Fords". Somebody at Ford was taking the new model year way too seriously. This was made in 1960, near the end of the populuxe era, and so was a kind of swan song for this sort of thing.

Lots of natural lighting with a smooth jazz soundtrack sets a mood much like the very old "creature features" of the late 50's & early 50's. Shot on location in Puerto Rico, set in actual hotels, casinos, underwater (obviously shot through the glass in an aquarium like Marineland), a very groovy millionaire's seaside pad and a historic giant castle like fort. An apocalyptic fatal love triangle story involving the last three people on earth who demonstrate the essential survival skills of getting loaded, fishing, and fighting in the water. The direction is superb with exciting angles and action scenes that squeeze every drop of talent out of the budget cast who portray this trio of upper class sleaze bags. Lots of entertainingly goofy dialogue and situations throughout the story make you begin to wonder... are they even serious about surviving? Not much they do or plan to do makes much sense as well as a few scenes, in particular, a beach scene involving a corpse of a young lady and some very strange lines. I enjoyed every bit of this movie and really dig the seaside millionaire's pad complete with television and hi-fi system built into the wall, a yacht parked outside and a fully stocked bar (they also raided the bar at the Hilton). My only disappointment is the feeble audio with the dialogue annoyingly a bit hard to understand.* The fact the soundtrack music portion sounds much better makes me guess that maybe Corman couldn't afford a quality microphone for this project. Well worth watching at least a few times.

The American Automobile Timeline 1899-1970 - Multimedial Historical Collection (Over 1200 files)
We do provide duplicates of the multimedial files of the Collection on a customized DVD-ROM on a (1) cost-recovery basis.
Almost all the digital copies of the films are good quality Hi-Res editable videos.
The videos in this Collection are available in different format, size and definition. We can suggest you the right one for the use you have in mind.
PRIVATE USE: home TV vision (DVD-Divx player), PC, iPod.
WE LICENSE FOOTAGE from our Collections for: multimedial creations on CD or DVD, TV commercials, film or TV programs, documentary Productions, web sites, marketing/ad campaigns, video email, electronic kiosks, trade shows, business seminars, cultural events, museums, expositions... and more.
Hi-Res videos from our Collections are available on DVD, CD or directly in your inbox. Clips and movies can also be downloaded from our servers using a PW or uploaded by us to your FTP.

(1) It is possible to obtain digital duplicates of the multimedial files (movies, videos, audio documents, and Virtual Reality files) from Romano-Archives for research, teaching, general interest user information, and private study purposes.
The fees charged for these files are on a cost-recovery basis.
The size, run-time, quality, and detailed informations regarding any multimedial file are indicated in the list inside our demo-DVD, where you can find images and/or animated gifs illustrating any file, 10 demo-videos, 2 for every different quality class, and 10 samples regarding the other kind of multimedial files composing the collection.
The files are available on a customized DVD-ROM.
Billing is done when the order is fulfilled. Payment instructions will follow. Normal turn around time for requests is 3 weeks. Rush (2-3 business days) is available for an additional fee of 40 Euros. Romano-Archives will provide up to 250 (or about 20% of this Collection) multimedial files to a single requesting party.

The multimedial files of the Collections are compatible with the free version of the most common players: Quicktime Player, Real Player, Windows Media Player.

Quasi tutte le versioni digitalizzate dei filmati sono state realizzate in alta risoluzione, con la migliore qualità audio-video possibile e sono copie editabili (possono cioè essere tagliate ed usate per qualsiasi tipo di montaggio digitale).
I video in alta risoluzione delle nostre Collezioni sono disponibili su DVD, CD o direttamente via email. Film e video possono anche essere scaricati dai nostri server con una password o caricati da noi sul vostro FTP.
Tutti i video compresi in questa Collezione sono disponibili in differenti formati, dimensioni e livelli di risoluzione. Saremo lieti di suggerirvi il più adatto alle vostre esigenze: visione su TV (DVD-Divx player), PC o IPod.
Sono disponibili licenze per pubblicazione sul Web o creazione di opere multimediali su CD o DVD, produzione di documentari, programmi televisivi, proiezioni pubbliche per istituzioni scolastiche o universitarie, eventi culturali (visione su monitor, anche in ripetizione automatica "loop mode"), musei, esposizioni ed altro.

Le dimensioni, la durata, la qualità, i contenuti ed ogni più dettagliata caratteristica dei files sono indicati in inglese in un completissimo elenco all'interno del nostro DVD-demo (comprendente immagini e/o gifs animate relative ad ogni singolo file, 10 filmati, 2 per ogni differente classe di qualità, e altri 10 esempi delle differenti tipologie di files multimediali presenti nella collezione). Ogni file dell'elenco è corredato da un breve riassunto dei contenuti in italiano.
I files sono disponibili su DVD-ROM personalizzati.
La richiesta di pagamento viene effettuata appena il vostro DVD è stato messo in ordine. Seguiranno le indicazioni su come effettuare il pagamento.
Il periodo normale di attesa per una spedizione è di circa tre settimane. Richieste di materiale storico con carattere di urgenza (2-3 giornate lavorative) vengono accettate dietro versamento di una somma extra di 40 Euro. Romano-Archives fornirà fino a un massimo di 250 (o circa il 20% della Collezione) files multimediali ad un singolo richiedente.
