1951
Probably the most famous concept car of all is GM's 1951 LeSabre, designer Harley Earl.
Earl himself used to conduct the car as his everyday driver for almost 70 thousand miles.
Many of the styling concepts used on the LeSabre will find their way into normal production GM models, and the name will be later used on a Buick car line.
For 1951 the Buick's grille bars are reduced in width and consequently added in number to 25. They now stop at the bumper, instead of enveloping it as they did last year.
Ford produces its first cars with Ford-made automatic transmissions.
One of the above transmissions, the Merc-O-Matic, is offered in the Mercury Monterey.
The Mercury Division manufactures a total of 310,387 cars for the year, but material limitations due to the Korean War begin to affect production.
In Frankfurt, Ford takes part in the first International Motor Show (IAA) since the war.
Powered steering is introduced by Chrysler.
Kaiser features a padded dashboard, and a pop-out windshield.
Sears markets its new car, the Allstate, in the southeastern United States, although it can be purchased elsewere through their catalog.
The Frazer line of cars is discontinued by Kaiser-Frazer, and the Henry J model, aline of inexpensive small cars begin.
The Hudson Hornet, introduced in 1951, takes the Super Six chassis, refines it and then adds a significantly more powerful engine. When the 262 cubic inch displacement in-line six-cylinder engine iss bored out to 308 cubic inches, the Hudson Hornet instantly becomes one of the hottest cars on the road.
Chrysler engineers create the hemispheric combustion chamber V-8 engine, the Hemi. The Hemi engine is a relatively expensive option for retail customers. Its costs often equale a third of the purchase price of the car. Chrysler will stop producing the Hemi in the mid-50s due to the costs.
La piu' famosa concept car di tutti i tempi viene presentata dalla GM: e' la mitica LeSabre, progettata per debuttare nel 1951 in un tour degli auto-show di tutto il mondo.
Il designer Harley Earl ha colpito ancora! A distanza di 20 anni dalla Buick Y-Job, e' riuscito a darci con la LeSabre la dimensione di cosa ci avrebbero riservato, anche solo in termini di accessori, le automobili di un futuro ancora lontanissimo.
Molti dei concetti stilistici della LeSabre troveranno comunque una rapida applicazione su alcuni modelli della GM che saranno prodotti negli anni seguenti. Il nome LeSabre verra' poi utilizzato per una linea di modelli Buick di normale produzione.
Ford lancia sul mercato le prime automobili dotate di un cambio automatico prodotto dalla stessa Ford. E' il Merc-O-Matic e viene offerto sulla Mercury Monterey.
La Mercury Motors Division produce quest'anno 318.387 vetture ma limitazioni di materiale dovute alla guerra in Corea cominciano ad interferire con la produzione.
La Ford partecipa al primo International Motor Show (IAA) europeo dalla fine della guerra. L'evento si svolge in Germania, a Francoforte.
Il servosterzo viene introdotto dalla Chrysler.
La Kaiser propone un cruscotto imbottito e un parabrezza che puo' essere asportato.
La linea di automobili Frazer cessa la produzione. Al suo posto vengono prodotti i modelli Henry che sono auto piccole ed economiche.
Nei modelli Buick del 1951 viene ridotta l'altezza della griglia e del frontale.
Le Buick di quest'anno possono vantare uno stile unico tutto loro, mentre le dimensioni, da veri incrociatori autostradali, fanno si' che lo spazio interno sia generoso anche sui modelli a 2 porte.

The soundtrack to this film deteriorated and was destroyed by the Jam Handy Organization. Only the Kodakrome master pix survives.

We do provide duplicates of the multimedial files of the Collection on a customized DVD-ROM on a (1) cost-recovery basis.
Almost all the digital copies of the films are good quality Hi-Res editable videos.
The videos in this Collection are available in different format, size and definition. We can suggest you the right one for the use you have in mind.
PRIVATE USE: home TV vision (DVD-Divx player), PC, iPod.
WE LICENSE FOOTAGE from our Collections for: multimedial creations on CD or DVD, TV commercials, film or TV programs, documentary Productions, web sites, marketing/ad campaigns, video email, electronic kiosks, trade shows, business seminars, cultural events, museums, expositions... and more.
Hi-Res videos from our Collections are available on DVD, CD or directly in your inbox. Clips and movies can also be downloaded from our servers using a PW or uploaded by us to your FTP.

(1) It is possible to obtain digital duplicates of the multimedial files (movies, videos, audio documents, and Virtual Reality files) from Romano-Archives for research, teaching, general interest user information, and private study purposes.
The fees charged for these files are on a cost-recovery basis.
