Exercises in sonic abstractionism: ambiences built on heavily treated bass-guitar driven soundscapes and sudden bursts of analogic noise, morphing onto a territory of a powerful, fluid, multilayered, turbid and very stilized (yet within shapes of recognizable musicality) drone/feedback music.

(From the bio:) LUX MAMMOTH consists of 2 members, Cat Hope & Dr.Alien Smith. They both perform on various arrangements of bass guitar, samplers, electronic effects, computers and other hardware. Their music has been described as "...a bizarre swirl of distorted sub-frequencies and bass noise. This duo uses the bass for a purpose it was never intended..." ( (c) Naomi Millet, THE WIRE, July 1999). Formed initially in 1999, LUX MAMMOTH have gone on to shock and surprise audiences with their live shows; loud and uncompromising, the duo have performed using their traditional format of bass guitars and electronic but have also staged shows using various sound sources including meat and power tools. Their debut CD, prior to the new release, "Hertz Circus" was released in late 2000. The members: CAT HOPE - is based in Perth and plays as a solo noise artist as well as composing for contemporary dance and films. Cat has had a varied and bizarre musical career: starting as classical flautist and ending up in her current situation as a noise, rock and soundtrack composer performing on electric bass. Her inclusion on the Susan Lawly "Extreme Music From Women" compilation in early 2000 led her to develop her solo bass noise performances and subsequently tour the USA. CAT has completed her first solo bass noise album "Fetish" on the Sound Gallery label, which after being sold out is about to be rereleased on bloodstar and has also performed with Hugo Race, Stelarc, Jon Rose, Quartered Shadows and has albums with her band Gata Negra as well as Micevice and Hugo Race And The True Spirit. DR ALIEN SMITH - as a recording engineer for over a decade, the DR has been responsible for recording the releases of Perth's most unique and extreme bands; the Bergerk! Studios was set up by the Dr in 1996 and still serves the underground of Perth's music scene today. Also forming and playing bass in weirdo rock band Swapmeat, the DR started to explore the world of noise and sound art with a 3 piece noise band called Kak, in 1998. LUX MAMMOTH came to fruition in 1999, combining the bass guitar and noise, the perfect outlet for his musical creativity.
