FRONT PANEL  anodized silver. Upper level : FM tuning / AM signal strength meter -  FM/AM Dial -  Stereo and power lamps. Lower level : power switch – tuning – Mode (AM- FM auto & muting on – FM mono & muting off)

REAR PANEL : Output – FM/AM antenna – FM de-emphasis – Voltage selector.

Pioneer introduced the TX-5500 II in 1977 as entry level tuner. The other three new tuners of that year were the TX-6500 II, TX-8500 II and the TX-9500 II, more sophisticated in circuitry and electronic components. The TX-5500 II was sold too in 1978.
