The three past editions of International Masterclasses of Ancient
Music Sounds and Places of the Baroque tooke place in august
2000, 2001 and 2002, with about 35 young musicians joining the lessons
and the public peformances. The teachers were Aris Christofellis, Andrea
Coen and Federico Guglielmo for singing, ancient keyboards and baroque
violin, respectively.
In the first edition of Masterclasses (august 21-27 2000) baroque music
in Sicily for voices and instruments was particularly studied whereas
in the latest one (august 20-29 2001) the collective practice in Laboratory
of ensemble music was devoted to Vincenzo Bellini's vocal music with fortepiano.
In the third edition of Masterclasses (2002) a focus on History of Italian
vocal music development from Baroque to Romantic Age was proposed. The
public concerts in the lovely baroque church of Jesus and Mary received
a general agreement from people enjoying the performances and also strongly
positive reports were published in local press.
