Scientific curriculum,
Massimo Negrotti, since 1980 Full Professor
of Sociology of knowledge at the Universities of Parma and Genoa, is now
Director of IMES-LCA (Istituto Metodologico Economico Statistico - Lab
for the Culture of the Artificial) at the University of Urbino. His main
areas of interest are cybernetics, methodology and the culture of the artificial.
During the period 1970-1980 he studied the possible applications of cybernetical
models to the social self-regulating processes, and, then, the systems
approach to the cultural evolution.
Since 1980 he carried out theoretical
studies on the relationship between culture and information
technologies,
and surveys on the AI people in Europe and in the USA. On both
the
above subjects he reported in several conferences and lectures
(among
them Paris, Stockholm, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Santa
Clara,
Ames, Chicago, Santa Cruz, Buffalo, Austin, Firenze, Rome, Torino,
Trieste,
Venezia, Salerno, Bari, Bologna, Brighton, Tokyo, Strassbourg, Lugano,
Geneve, Lausanne, Innsbruck, Odense, Ålborg) and in many Italian
and international journals (Sociologia (Rome) Studi di sociologia
(Milan)
Sociologia e ricerca sociale (Milan) Computer Compacts (Amsterdam), AI
& Society (London) Applied Artificial Intelligence (New

techno-methodological premises and regularities of the artificial,
conceived
as a general area of research.
He is part of the Teaching Committee of the Dottorato di Ricerca (Ph. D.) in Disegno e Metodi di Sviluppo Prodotto (Virtual Prototypes and Real Products) of the Milan Polytechnic, Faculty of Engineering, and of the Teaching Committee of the Dottorato di Ricerca (Ph. D.) in Methodology of Social Sciences, based at Florence University.
