Noel on Entwistle's death

The 57-year-old bassist was found dead in a Las Vegas hotel room on the eve of the start of The Who's US tour on Thursday. The cause of death has not been officially determined, but the star is believed to have died of a heart attack.

Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher said: "John was one of the great bass players of all time, in one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands of all time. They don't make 'em like him any more, and he will be sadly missed."

Lairy Liam mashes a Swede

Serial scrapper Liam Gallagher got into a punch-up with a top Swedish comic after an Oasis gig.

The singer punched telly star Andres Lokko several times — twice in the face — at the aftershow party in Stockholm.
Oasis bassist Andy Bell, who is married to Swede Indha Ovelius and lives in her country, had to dive in to break up the fight before security men escorted the singer out.
Liam lost the plot at a bash thrown by his record company, Sony, at the StureCompagniet club.
One onlooker said: “Liam was being very flirty with Andres’s girlfriend Lisa Millberg.
Andres was telling him to stop but Liam turned on him and the fight was on.
“Liam leapt up and attacked Andres with several slaps and punches. He landed at least two heavy punches on his head.
Andres, 36, is a household name in Sweden for his telly performances with cult comedy troupe THE KILLING GANG.
He is also a popular newspaper columnist. Oasis had just played at the city’s Circus venue.
Sony laid on the bash to celebrate the launch of their new album Heathen Chemistry.
Comic Andres would only say: “Andy is of my best friends so I don’t want to get involved. Liam has gone to bed now.”

Oasis order Army to drop songs

The British army is retreating in the face of a famously combative enemy: the rock group Oasis.

The army said Sunday it was withdrawing a recruitment video featuring two Oasis songs after the Manchester group refused to give permission to use the tracks.

Lawyers for Oasis, led by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, said the video for Scotland's Highlanders regiment used the songs "Wonderwall" and "Hello" without permission.

The video, which was shown in schools and shopping malls, depicts soldiers conducting exercises in Kenya to the sound of the songs from the hit 1995 album "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?"

A Defense Ministry official said the regiment did not realize it needed permission to use the songs until it was brought to their attention.

The regiment then contacted the group's record label to seek permission but was turned down and had to withdraw all copies of the video, the official said on condition of anonymity.

About 300 copies of the video were recalled, he said.

"(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" debuted at No. 1 in Britain and became the second-best selling album in British history.

Noel's divorce settlement

In the English High Court this week Noel disputed the huge figure Meg claimed she needed in their divorce settlement case. The judge ordered Noel to pay Meg the lump sum of stg£4 million and give her a £1.2million home near London’s Regent’s Park. In return, Meg must move out of the £2.5million mansion in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks, that the couple bought as their marriage failed. The £25,000-a-month maintenance Noel was paying to Meg will also stop. The case, heard in secret, lasted three days. The couple divorced in January 2001 last year but the negotiations for a final settlement only finished on Thursday this week.
A source close to Meg said: "She is feeling very victorious because Noel really didn't want to give her this money.
"But she insists it is for Anais - she just wants to bring her up in a way that befits the daughter of a multi-millionaire.
"Meg has now gone on holiday with friends and Anais. She feels she deserves this money. She had to put up with a lot during this marriage and she was also the inspiration behind Wonderwall. It was one of Oasis' biggest hits and it probably netted them nearly £4million on its own."
A pal of Noel's said: "He is not happy, things did not go his way. However, Meg is the mother of his baby so he does not want the row to get any more bitter."
Noel said he was prepared to give Meg £500,000 cash plus the home in Buckinghamshire.
But he has always argued against handing her lots of dosh as a settlement - saying he did not want the money to go on parties and shopping trips.
