RINO NICOLOSI

English Bio:

Born in Enna (Sicily) in 1970, Rino Nicolosi started studying piano at age 7 in Albenga (where he also attended a national piano contest in 1980), then moved on to Sanremo where he enrolled at the Ottorino Respighi School until 1985, then to the Paganini Conservatory of Genova where he obtained the Diploma under the guide of M.o Franco Trabucco.

In Genova Rino attended international seminars (in particular chamber music with M.o Massimiliano Damerini) and played as soloist and in quartet at "Il Tempietto", Oratorio of S. Filippo, the "ridotto" of renown Theater Carlo Felice.

Jazz and popular music have been a part of Rino's vocabulary ever since the beginning, and his piano playing and singing have been heard in Liguria but also in the provinces of Bergamo, Brescia, Viterbo, and in Lugano - Switzerland.

In 1996 he has co-founded the Ars Nova Music School in Albegna (where he still teaches piano, music theory, and solfeggio).

Rino has taught Musical Education in junior high schools in Carcare, Urbe, Sassello, Stella, Cengio and Altare, and directed (while playing the organ) the sacred choirs of Garlenda and Stellanello (province of Savona).
He has worked for Raro Records of Rome (arranger and pianist for a tribute-CD for Lucio Battisti) in '98, and played with renown ligurian musicians such as Andrea Marchesini, Mauro Vero, Marco Fadda, Andrea Pozza, Claudio Capurro, Giorgio Palombino.

His latest main occupation has been the italian-cuban band Salsabrosa, with which he played international festivals in Nice (France) and Diano Marina (both featutured on national TV programs) and a long list of local "piazza" concerts.

Among his other experience: piano work for the "Paul Jeffrey Vocal Ensamble" (under the supervision of singer Danila Satragno and pianist Riccardo Zegna), chamber music performances with Marco Lombardo (violoncello), Marco Moro (flute), Corrado Trabuio (violin), and Giampiero Lobello (trumpet), and live "jam session" fun with Billy Cobham, Ellade Bandini, Rosario Bonaccorso, Gianpaolo Casati.
