DREAM MEAN THEY

About of DREAM MEAN THEY

Teaching Clinical Psychology - Working (and playing) with Dreams
Psychologist John Suler recommends ways of exploring your associations with the
objects and characters in your dreams.

  • What would they say to each other? Another possibility is to carry out this conversation LIVE

  • They touched off ideas, feelings, and memories in the unconscious

  • For example, if you can't remember a person in the dream, can you remember what they were wearing, the color of their eyes, the color of their hair? Who does this remind you of? Dreams often are connected to each other in their meanings

  • Pay particular attention to recurring dreams since these are important! They point to a persistent theme or issue in your life

  • They may indicate some 'unfinished business' in your life

  • How are the recurring dreams similar to each other? Different? Are they changing over time? What might this say about how you are changing? Remember that the unconscious thinking that affects a dream is unusual and illogical by conscious standards

  • Things can mean exactly the opposite of what they seem

  • How are you the same? Different? Is this person in the dream some hidden part of you - some part you wish for, need, or fear? Other people in the dream may represent important people in your life - how they actually are, how you wish them to be, how you fear they might be

Dreams: what they are and how they are caused - by CWLeadbeater
    Article by CWLeadbeater.

  • D R E A M S What they are and how they are caused by C

  • No such objection as this, however, can be taken to our present subject: all readers of these lines have dreamed — probably many of them are in the habit of dreaming frequently; and they may therefore be interested in an endeavour to account for dream phenomena by the aid of the light thrown upon them by investigation along theosophic lines

  • The same remark holds good with reference to our other sense organs; the auditory, the olfactory, or the gustatory nerves differ from one another and from the rest only in this specialization: they are essentially the same, and they all do their respective work in exactly the same manner, by the transmission of vibrations to the brain

  • If we examine with psychic faculty the body of a newly-born child, we shall find it permeated not only by astral matter of every degree of density, but also by the different grades of etheric matter; and if we take the trouble to trace these inner bodies backwards to their origin, we find that it is of the latter that the etheric double — the mould upon which the physical body is built up — is formed by the agents of the Lords of karma; while the astral matter has been gathered together by the descending ego — not of course consciously, but automatically — as he passed through the astral plane, and is, in fact, merely the development in that plane of tendencies whose seeds have been lying dormant in him during his experiences in the heaven-world, because on that level it was impossible that they could germinate for want of the grade of matter necessary for their expression

Roger Ebert's review. Rated four stars.

  • The movie spans six years in the lives of William and Arthur, starting when they are in the eighth grade, and continuing through the first year of college

  • It was intended originally to be a 30-minute short, but as the filmmakers followed their two subjects, they realized this was a much larger, and longer story

  • They're spotted during playground games by a scout for St

  • Arthur and William are working harder, perhaps, than anyone else in their school - for jobs which, we are told, they have only a .00005 percent chance of winning

  • We see how the strong black church structure provides support and encouragement - how it is rooted in reality, accepts people as they are, and believes in redemption

  • Because we see where William and Arthur come from, we understand how deeply they hope to transcend - to use their gifts to become pro athletes

  • We follow their steps along the path that will lead, they hope, from grade school to the NBA

  • Joseph's High School are not pleased with the way they appear in the film, and have filed suit, saying among other things that they were told the film would be a non-profit project to be aired on PBS, not a commercial venture

The Internet Classics Archive | On Prophesying by Dreams by Aristotle
Aristotle recognizes that all beings, even animals, dream, and discounts claims
of a divine source and of their ability to foretell the future.

  • This is plain in what often happens during sleep; for example, dreamers fancy that they are affected by thunder and lightning, when in fact there are only faint ringings in their ears; or that they are enjoying honey or other sweet savours, when only a tiny drop of phlegm is flowing down [the oesophagus]; or that they are walking through fire, and feeling intense heat, when there is only a slight warmth affecting certain parts of the body

  • When they are awakened, these things appear to them in this their true character

  • Part 2 On the whole, forasmuch as certain of the lower animals also dream, it may be concluded that dreams are not sent by God, nor are they designed for this purpose [to reveal the future]

  • They have a divine aspect, however, for Nature [their cause] is divinely planned, though not itself divine

  • A special proof [of their not being sent by God] is this: the power of foreseeing the future and of having vivid dreams is found in persons of inferior type, which implies that God does not send their dreams; but merely that all those whose physical temperament is, as it were, garrulous and excitable, see sights of all descriptions; for, inasmuch as they experience many movements of every kind, they just chance to have visions resembling objective facts, their luck in these matters being merely like that of persons who play at even and odd

  • Primitive people, unable to explain the psychology of dreaming or to discover the causes of sleep, observed that, whereas man can, when awake, control his thoughts and fancies, yet he is utterly incapable, when in sleep, either of bringing about such dreams as he might wish, or of directing and ruling those that offer themselves to his faculties; hence they were led to attribute dreams to outside and supernatural agencies

  • If the gods, they said, love man and are omniscient as well as all-powerful, they certainly may disclose their purposes to man in sleep

  • It was accordance with these views, and to gratify the cravings which they created that Daldianus Artemidorus compiled his 'Oneirocritica', in which rules were laid down whereby any one could interpret his own dreams

  • By a dream in a vision by night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, and they are sleeping in their beds: then he openeth the ears of men, and teaching instructeth them in what they are to learn.' Lucid dreaming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia entry - touching on definitions, techniques, associated phenomenon, a
history of the topic and some popular culture references.

  • Lucid dreams are prodigiously more memorable than other kinds of dreaming, even, which may be why they are often prescribed as a means of ridding one's self of troubling dreams

  • Reviewing the past literature, as well as new data from subjects of her own, Green analysed the main characteristics of such dreams, and concluded that they were a category of experience quite distinct from ordinary dreams

  • She predicted that they would turn out to be associated with

  • During the, further evidence to confirm the existence of lucid dreaming was produced as lucid dreamers were able to demonstrate to researchers that they were consciously aware of being in a dream state (usually again by using eye movement signals)

  • Any time that a person recognizes a dream sign, or anything that is out of the ordinary, they should perform a

CROP CIRCLES, THEIR MEANING AND CONNECTIONS TO DREAMS
Articles by Joseph E. Mason and Dee Finney. They belive that the crop circle
formations are related to dreams and human consciousness.

  • They are often considered to be 'religious' symbols, such as the 1993 Bythorn Mandala, the 1997 Tree of Life, and two 1999 formations - the Winged Disk God and the Biblical Menorah

  • Why is it, then, that the Discovery Channel and other media or government organizations are not calling for a full investigation of this very serious matter? Why do they heap ridicule on researchers who are trying to gather evidence and find the answers? Is it not a serious matter that religious beliefs are being manipulated by unknown sources? Should we not be concerned with their motives? I would also ask the Discovery Channel people if they are not concerned about loosing their credibility with the public

  • Are they unaware that times are changing

  • that the Internet/WWW is now an alternate news source, and that the real crop circle and UFO/ET story is being presented on a wide scale? Are they not aware that debunkers are loosing the battle

  • that a greater and greater percentage of people 'believe' that there is credible evidence that UFOs, ETs, and crop circle formations have a reality of some kind? Are they not concerned that the final outcome will be that the general public will conclude that such debunkers are bald-faced liars? Surely, they must be concerned with loosing *money* in the long run, as people turn away from unreliable sources

Lucid Dreaming: Awake in Your Sleep
An article of some length on lucid dreaming by Susan Blackmore, PhD.

  • That they are different from ordinary dreams is obvious as soon as you have one

  • More recently, however, they have begun to appear in psychology journals and have dropped out of parapsychology—a good example of how the field of parapsychology shrinks when any of its subject matter is actually explained

  • In other words, they could not really be dreams at all

  • This presented a challenge to lucid dreamers who wanted to convince people that they really were awake in their dreams

  • They usually lasted for two to five minutes

  • Later research showed that they occur at times of particularly high arousal during REM sleep (Hearne 1978)

  • For many people, having lucid dreams is fun, and they want to learn how to have more or to induce them at will

  • They roughly fall into three categories

  • The idea is to use some sort of external signal to remind people, while they are actually in REM sleep, that they are dreaming

  • This sometimes caused them to incorporate water imagery into their dreams, but they rarely became lucid

  • LaBerge asked his subjects to signal when they became lucid and then count a ten-second period and signal again
