It was a preoccupation of Pink Floyds that would later surface in songs like Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (from A Saucerful of Secrets ) and the groups masterwork, Dark Side of the Moon
Among the prime acid casualties of the Sixties, Barrett subsequently released two magnificent, if eccentric, solo albums The Madcap Laughs and Barrett , both from 1970 with considerable input from his erstwhile bandmates in Pink Floyd
Thereafter, however, Barrett became one of rock's most legendary hermits and the subject of Roger Waters tributary opus 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond.' It was the side-long centerpiece of Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here (1975) and a sterling example of what the group has referred to as its recurring theme of absence. With guitarist David Gilmour on-board as Barretts replacement, Pink Floyds lineup remained constant for the next 15 years

This is a Pink Floyd classic which should be recognised just as much as Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall
It's no longer Pink Floyd making music because they want to (this trend manifested itself with Dark Side of the Moon ), but because the public wants to hear an album from Pink Floyd
One would think this is an example of aging rockers cashing in on their earlier success and they would be correct, but still, it was hard to resist getting this once I saw the blinking light on the side of the CD cover
This is a live recording of the latter leg of their tour where they played the entire Dark Side of the Moon album, a set that hadn't been played live since 1975
The first side of this CD contains songs like Shine on You Crazy Diamond , Astronomy Domine , Hey You , and a lot of stuff from the Gilmour-era Pink Floyd
The second contains the entire Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You were Here , Comfortably Numb , and Run like Hell for the encores

Released in August 1967, the band's debut album, is today considered to be a prime example of British psychedelic music, and was generally well-received by critics at the time

While Atom Heart Mother was considered a huge step back for the band at the time and is still considered one of its most inaccessible albums, it had the best chart performance for the band so far, reaching #1 in the UK and #55 in the U.S., although it has since been described by Gilmour as 'a load of rubbish' and Waters as suitable for 'throwing in the dustbin and never [being] listened to by anyone ever again.' The album was another transitional piece for the group, hinting at future musical territory such as 'Echoes' in its ambitious title track

There probably isn't a house in the western world without a copy of Dark Side of the Moon tucked away somewhere
Ever since getting my first Floyd album when I was 13 ( Dark Side of the Moon ), I have loved and then liked them, and then loved them, and then been undecided on my feelings
The thing is, while Dark Side of the Moon is surely a great album, and one of my favorites ever probably, it doesn't have that very personal aspect, that extra something, that an album like OK Computer has- it feels like a very universally known album, which of course it is, which sometimes takes away from its greatness
The film 'More' apparently concerned hippies dying from smack addiction (hence the title) but any theme of the film has nothing in common with the music on this album and only the proliference of instrumentals on the second side suggests this is anything other than a normal third album by the band
After "Cymbaline" the entire second side descends into instrumental territory (bar the brief rock reprise of "Ibiza Bar")
That said, Gilmour's third part of "The Narrow Way" is quite nice, in a sort of proto- Dark Side of the Moon way

Endless, endless puking mixed with nonsensical 'lyrics.' It's a good thing Barrett went off his head, because Dark Side/Animals/Wish You Were Here/ era Floyd would never have happened with this pretensious untalented twat in the band
Don't get me wrong all the other songs are good but i would rate darkside, wish you were here and meddle higher
I bet you you consider The Who's 'It's Hard' as their definite work and 'Tommy' or 'Quadrophenia' suck
piper is one of my favorites but there's a little too much self-indulgence (plus a couple of just plain weak tracks) to put it on a level with 'dark side' or even 'wish you were here' (i won't include 'the wall' because it also suffers from a lot of filler)
now if the best tracks from 'piper' were put together with their great singles from '67 (arnold, emily, candy..., etc.) then you would really have a great album, and i'd hate to have to choose between that and 'dark side', for instance
Its diversity makes it slightly stronger than Dark Side for me
