The state was known as Indian Territory when the 5 civilized Tribes were forced to relocate here, during 1838-1839, from their homes in the southeast as ordered by President Jackson in what is known as the '.' A treaty then swore this would be the Indians' Promised Land, 'for as long as the grass grows and the water flows.' -- However, in 1889 a choice portion of Indian Territory in Oklahoma was opened up for white settlement in one of the most bizarre events known to American History

Soon intense white pressure for their lands, with the approval of President Andrew Jackson, forced the Cherokee and the others of the Five Civilized Tribes (the Choctaw, the Chickasaw, the Creek, and the Seminole) to abandon their old homes east of the Mississippi and to take up residence in what was to become the
The Five Civilized Tribes clashed briefly with the Plains Indians, particularly the Osage, but they were for a time free from white interference, and they were able to establish a civilization that strongly affected the whole history of the region
The troubles of the whites did not, however, long escape them, and the Civil War was a major disaster
The territory was plagued by lawlessness and served as a hideout for white outlaws
The first railroad to cross Oklahoma was built between 1870 and 1872, and thereafter it was not possible to keep white settlers out
They came despite proscriptive laws and treaties with the Native Americans, and by the 1880s there was a strong admixture of whites
In addition, ranches were developed that were nominally owned by Native Americans, but actually controlled by white cattlemen and their cowboys

1995 article examining the political context of the bombing, in particular the
influence of the book Leaderless Resistance. The ideological fervor of thousands of "state citizens" and "freemen, " and their willingness to resort to violence to achieve their political goals, spring from the same sources as the white supremacist and neo-Nazi movements throughout North America: race hatred, anti-Semitism, violent xenophobia, and their desire to create a (white) fundamentalist "Christian Republic" in the United States
Weisman, a racist publisher and author whose book, "America: Free, White and Christian, " is a source for much of the Patriot movement's racialist theories of "state citizenship." (for further background on the complex interrelationship among Christian Patriot militias, white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the racist religion of Christian Identity, see: Robert Crawford, S.L
8) Richard Snell was a white supremacist member of the terrorist group, The Order, executed in Arkansas on Wednesday
MOM's newsletter said Snell would be executed "unless we act now!!!" While the article did not call for violence to free Snell, the Trochmann family are hardly strangers to the most extreme factions of the white supremacist movement

Handbook of Texas Online:
Current and historical information about Carson County.
The lands of the Francklyn Company were sold to the White Deer Lands Trust of British bondholders in 1886 and 1887
By 1890 Carson County had a rail network, and its first town, soon known simply as Panhandle; that year, the United States census listed twenty-eight ranches or farms in the area, and 356 people were living in the county, all of them white and twenty-nine of them foreign-born
qv That discovery, together with the selling of White Deer lands to small ranchers and farmers in 1902, greatly increased the area's attractiveness
Likewise, a large Polish Catholic population developed in the eastern part of the county on lands purchased from White Deer lands by immigrants
They began to arrive in 1909 and centered their community around a new village named White Deer, laid out in the same year
In 1927 the same railroad built a ten-mile spur from White Deer to Skellytown, a new town built that year by Skelly Oil to serve a recently constructed refinery
By 2000 there were 6, 516 people living in the county, most of whom lived in its towns, which include White Deer (2000 population, 1, 060), Skellytown (610), and Groom (587)
