At least, this was the view of middle daughter Jan, who complained once that everyone was always talking about "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" Jan's words have echoing through my head for the past few months, because in matters of search, I've been hearing a crescendo of "Google, Google, Google!" In the "Search Engine Bunch, " Google is Marcia Brady, the family member who seemingly gets more attention than the others
But while the Jans of the bunch might be envious of Google's popularity, there are also serious downsides to being at the top
In particular, Google's biggest challenge may be that so many people now see it as the only search engine that "matters, " a marketplace dominance in search that seems akin to that which Microsoft has with operating systems, office software and web browsers
Does search dominance by Google mean that the company is destined to face general hatred, as well? Such a fate is not preordained, as we shall see
But first, let's review just a few examples of how people have viewed Google as all powerful
Just this week, China apparently deemed Google so potentially subversive that it blocked access to the search engine

But Google's changes have puzzled computer users - no-one can work out what they are or why they have been made
To get round this, Google uses a sophisticated page ranking system
People have been blatantly abusing the system and working out how to get a good ranking so Google's natural reaction is to change the rules
'People are constantly trying to guess what's going on inside Google and trying to manipulate their sites so their ranking is as high as possible.' Every month or so, Google makes changes to try to stop the cheating
This is called the Google Dance
Demands 'Google has to, every now and then, change the rules to make it tougher for people to abuse the system, ' says Andrew
'Unfortunately some smaller sites have got tarred with the same brush and fallen foul of these new rules.' Sites can put a lot of effort into meeting Google's demands and it can take many months to rise to the top of a relevant ranking

However, when she tries to do a Google search, she realizes the sad truth
Meanwhile, in Mount Doom 3 located in Silicon Valley , Google is in human form
They just Google search anything and everything
Back at the Library of Congress, the librarian calls tech support to help with Google missing
That makes the tech support think that Google really is missing
Finally, after a little more time, the remaining main characters get to Mount Doom 3 in Silicon Valley and begged Google to go back online
Google cannot go back online without something special
Google needs the perfect computer to go back online
