Hotpants was very brief tight shorts worn by women as an outer garment .
They are worn above the knees around the thigh area .
Categorized as " short shorts ", hot pants commonly have an inseam length of
2 inches (50 mm) or less .
These are short, tight shorts, usually made of cotton, nylon, or some other common material .
They are meant to emphasize the butt○cks and the legs .
Hot-pants were launched by fashion designer Mary Quant during the " Swinging London "
scene of the mid-1960s , and they were very popular up to the early 1970s .
If a person cuts off the legs of a pair of jeans, that's known as a " cut-off " .
The character Daisy Duke from TV series " The Dukes of Hazzard " was known for wearing
low cut blue jeans .
Her popularity led to the term " Daisy Dukes " being used for short shorts .
Jorts ( from ' jean shorts ' ) is another name for denim shorts , typically
cut longer than Daisy Dukes ( mid-thigh for women and at the knee for men ).

The term Hotpants was first used by Women's Wear Daily in 1970 to describe shorts made in luxury fabrics
such as velvet and satin for fashionable wear, rather than their more practical equivalents that had been worn for sports or leisure since the 1930s.
The term has since become a generic term for any pair of extremely short shorts.
While hotpants were briefly a very popular element of mainstream fashion in the early 1970s,
by the mid-1970s they had become associated with the s℮x industry, which contributed to their fall from fashion.
|
|
Origins and terminology : Whilst the term "hotpants" is used generically to describe extremely short shorts, similar garments had been worn since the 1930s.
These garments, however, were designed mainly for sports, beachwear and leisure wear, while hotpants were innovative in that they were made from non-activewear fabrics such as velvet, silk, crochet, fur and leather, and styled explicitly to be worn on the street, for parties, or even as bridal wear.
Other alternative names included "les shorts", "short cuts", "cool pants", and "shortootsies", with "booty shorts" as an early 21st-century term.
Today, the term hotpants can be used for casual as well as fashion-wear short-shorts made in any fabric.
While hotpants were principally marketed to women, men were also targeted, and the term can describe very short men's shorts.

Reception : At the end of the 1960s, the fashion industry had tried unsuccessfully to promote the mid-calf-length or midi skirt as a fashionable replacement for the miniskirt.
In contrast to the lukewarm response to the midi, shoppers enthusiastically embraced the idea of short shorts, which were made available at all price levels from haute couture to inexpensive ready-to-wear.
The fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert credits Mariuccia Mandelli of the Italian fashion label Krizia with designing the first "hot pants" in 1970.
Hotpants are also increasingly credited to Mary Quant, who offered brief shorts in the late 1960s, although these were intended as modesty knickers to wear with matching minidresses rather than standalone fashion garments.
Many designers from across the Western world produced their own versions of hotpants at all price levels, including Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Halston, and Betsey Johnson.
Mass-produced versions were also sold through the Sears mail-order catalogue.
Hotpants were available for women, men and children, although they were principally worn by women.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis bought a pair for wear while yachting, while other high-profile wearers included Elizabeth Taylor, Raquel Welch, and Jane Fonda.
Hotpants were also worn by particularly adventurous men such as David Bowie, Sammy Davis Jr. and Liberace.
Hotpants for men were slightly longer than the women's versions, although they were still shorter than usual.

nylon , pelle e fibre sintetiche .

Daisy Mae Duke is a fictional character , played by Catherine Bach ,
from the American television series "The Dukes of Hazzard" .
She was both the main female protagonist and the s℮x symbol on Dukes of Hazzard .
Bach appeared numerous times wearing tight and short denim shorts ,
which later became colloquially known as " Daisy Dukes " .
The network censors believed that Daisy's famous cut-off shorts alone
would be too revealing . The shorts were so short that the only way the
producers could get them on air was for Catherine Bach to wear flesh-colored
pantyhose with them to ensure that the shorts revealed no more of her than intended .
Bach herself had concerns about the shorts saying she could not wear them in the restaurant scene .
The producers' answer was for her to visit the restaurant across the street ;
Bach found the waitresses there were wearing "little miniskirts that matched the tablecloths !".
Bach made many of Daisy's costumes herself, especially the early ones , including the red bikini
in the first episode , seen during the show's opening credits .
At the suggestion of the show's producers , Bach posed as Daisy Duke for a poster ,
which sold 5 million copies .
