Tempi Moderni I film del 1998 DARK CITY CAST TECNICO ARTISTICO Regia: Alex Proyas Soggetto: Alex Proyas, Lem Dobbs, David S
Stilisticamente eccellente, il film di Alex Proyas coniuga alla perfezione la grammatica di vari generi cinematografici (il noir, la fantascienza, il poliziesco) citando e omaggiando sia la cultura "alta" (Kafka, il "Metropolis" di Fritz Lang, "Blade Runner" di Ridley Scott) sia quella definita "bassa" (l'inizio, con il risveglio accanto al cadavere nella stanza d'albergo, è un omaggio esplicito al comic book di Frank Miller "Sin City")
Malgrado ciò "Dark City", con i suoi eleganti esercizi di stile, rimane un film riuscito, con il pregio non comune agli odierni film americani di fondare la sua filosofia su un pessimismo che non ammette redenzione

Io, robot , ispirato al genio di Isaac Asimov, è diretto da Alex Proyas, che dopo Dark City torna ad affrontare il tema del potere occulto che attraverso forze nascoste cerca di dominare il mondo, siano esse rappresentate da alieni (Dark city come Linvasione degli ultracorpi ) totalitarismi politici (1984 su carta o Brazil al cinema), oppure macchine (Il mondo dei robot ) e lo fa partendo da un soggetto alto, quello asimoviano appunto, che conteneva dei possibili sviluppi cinematografici di grande suggestione
Chi scrive consiglia di lasciar perdere questo film, e di recuperarsi in home video il precedente Dark City , che affrontava tematiche analoghe ma con piglio decisamente più noir e goticheggiante
VOTO: 5 Mauro Tagliabue Un regista dallo sguardo dark come Alex Proyas ("Il corvo", "Dark City") rilegge le pagine di uno dei pilastri della fantascienza come Isaac Asimov
Nellottimo Dark city lambientazione aveva il piacevole sapore degli anni 50, pur essendo un film di fantascienza
Il montaggio è improprio, tradendo le origini del regista (il videoclip), errore che ha impedito a Dark city (che rimane comunque il suo miglior film) di divenire capolavoro
