The hole argument is an attempt to illustrate how spacetime substantivalism causes

The practice of making a hole in the skull, known as trepanation, has been around since the Stone Age
An instrument called a trepan is used to make the hole
You bandage yourself up and eventually the skin heals over, leaving only a small indentation to show for the hole in your head
But why -- with all of today's sophisticated therapies -- go for the hole? The idea is to pump up your 'brainbloodvolume, ' a term coined by Dutchman Bart Huges, the guru of modern-day trepanation

M: When did you decide to have the 'third eye'? H: In prison, having checked the mechanism by perceiving the cerebrospinal fluid in the back outside the central nervous system (after using the pressed-up method described in the scroll, ) I thought about making a hole at the base of the spine to let the fluid out, and while thinking about holes I realized that pressure was necessary to squeeze the cerebrospinal fluid out of the system
Then, having concluded upon the nil pressure inside the adult skull (in most people the skull seals between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two, ) I saw that any hole in the bony surrounding of the system would give the pressure back

I came to believe that the key to a permanent consciousness increase was a hole in the skull, to restore the full brain pulsation of infancy
I put on a shower cap (that had been washed with sterile wipes) and cut a square hole in it where the cutting and drilling would be done
He turned one of the bits over and tapped around in the hole
He had made it through to the meninges! I saw a video of this moment, and yes, you can see the brain pulsating! Now we just had to widen the hole
Minutes later, they were sure the hole could be opened no more before risking cutting scalp with the drill, so we were done
