Il nome Dirty Rotten Imbecilles gli venne attribuito dai loro genitori per la violenza della musica che suonavano. I DRI nascono a Houston nel 1984, dopo una partenza hardcore si trasferiscono a San Francisco e qui subiscono l'influenza del movimento thrash allora in piena crescita.
