1981:
natale: primissima apparizione ufficiale dei fondatori Marian Gold and Bernhard Lloyd con la 7-Headed Nelson Community, un collettivo di artisti, da cui nasceranno a breve gli Alphaville
1982/83:
la band con il nuovo nome "forever young" e con la formazione Gold/Lloyd/Mertens esegue un secondo concerto (l'ultimo per altri dieci anni).
1984:
il debutto alla grande massa col singolo "big in japan", seguito da "sounds like a melody" e "forever young". In ottobre un album con lo stesso nome viene rilasciato. Dicembre: Frank Mertens lascia la band. Il chitarrista e il tastierista Ricky Echolette prende il suo posto. Gli Alphaville scrivono il soundtrack del film "der bulle und das mädchen" e prendono parte al progetto di beneficenza "Band for Afrika".
1985:
Rilasciano il quarto singolo "the jet set"
1986:
"dance with me" lancia il secondo album "afternoons in utopia", prodotto da Peter Walsh (Scott Walker / Simple Minds) e Steve Thompson (A-ha, Bowie). Il CD include in parte un effetto-live, che però poi non verrà mai rilasciato, perchè la band decide di non seguir più la via dei concerti live per concentrarsi per il momento sulle attività in studio. In giugno gli Alphaville publicano "afternoons" assieme al singole "universal daddy", in dicembre il singolo "jerusalem" viene rilasciato. allo stesso tempo il progetto musicale degli Alphaville "Soundtraxx for imaginary movies" parte con la collaborazione di Klaus Schulze.
1987:
Inizia la registrazione del terzo album "the breathtaking blue" con klaus schulze.
1989:
"the breathtaking blue" viene pubblicato. Per creare dei videoclips più originali viene l'idea di creare un shortcut-film. Nove produttori, fra loro Godrey Reggio ("koyaanisqatsi"), girano film sui pezzi dell'album sotto il titolo "songlines". Quello di Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein vince il premio oscar a Hollywood sotto il nome di 'balance' (equilibrio). Il CD 'the breathtaking blue' è il primo cd + grafica aggiunta, il precursore del dvd.
1992:
viene pubblicato l'album riepilogativo dei loro primi successi "first harvest" ("prima raccolta"). Nello studio lunapark di proprietà della band si prepara il nuovo auto-prodotto "prostitute". Marian Gold pubblica il suo primo album da solista "so long celeste". Allo stesso tempo la registrazione di "prostitute" continua prendendo molto tempo di realizzazione, così la data di rilascio viene spostata di oltre 1 anno e mezzo.
1993:
in seguito ad un invito la formazione decide spontaneamente, dopo 10 anni di astinenza, di dare un concerto a Beirut.
1994:
rilascio del singolo "fools", seguito finalmente dal tanto atteso album "prostitute". Il cd è un caleidoscopio di estratti di lavorazioni eseguite in studio in questi 2 anni.
1995:
La band si raccoglie a sud della Francia per iniziare la scrittura di "salvation", il quinto album degli Alphaville.
1996:
ricky echolette lascia gli Alphaville. Gli Alphaville aprono un sede a Londra. Lì eseguono anche la registrazione di "salvation" con il produttore Andy Richards (art of noise / omd). Alphaville lanciano il loro tuttora esistente official website a http://www.alphaville.de . Ormai questo è il punto principale di comunicazione con i loro fans.
1997:
Come prima conseguenza di questa cooperazione viene creato il primo single "wishful thinking". In settembrr l'album "salvation" viene messo in commercio. Dopodichè il contratto fra la band e la loro casa WEA termina.
1998:
La band continua a girare in tour la Germania e l'Europa dell'est, Intanto che si prepara il nuovo album, la band si esibisce in Perù e Mosca. L'album conterrà la loro antologia chiamata "dreamscapes" - un cofanetto di 8 CD con tutta la storia completa del gruppo incluse delle registrazioni live e dei mix mai rilasciati. Tutte queste canzoni sono in versione mai pubblicata prima. La novità è che "dreamscapes" è completamente prodotta e pubblicata dagli Alphaville. Tutto ciò non significa però la fine degli Alphaville. Stanno già preparando un nuovo completo album.
1999:
'dreamscapes' vende incredibilmente bene e gli Alphaville vincono la sfida: la canzone 'flame' venduta negli USA così come l'album 'dreamscapes' sono distribuiti direttamente dagli Alphaville, senza una major record company.
La prima edizione di dreamscapes è completamente venduta nel giro di 3 mesi. Gli Alphaville sono ancora sulla cresta dell'onda.
Giugno: alphaville suonano al 'kieler woche' a Kiel, Germania per un entusiastico pubblico di oltre 10.000 persone.
L'album 'salvation' viene venduto negli USA con un veste grafica completamente rinnovata e 3 bonus tracks.
A luglio danno 2 grandi concerti a Salt Lake City, USA. Per entrambi i concerti i biglietti vengono venduti in 2 settimane !
In seguito suonano anche in Portogallo con 17.000 persone.
2000:
l'edizione per gli USA dell'album 'salvation' viene venduta dalla casa metropolis records.
La band fa ancora dei concerti live in tutto il mondo, ma continua a lavorare in studio per un lavoro programmato per il 2002. Nel frattempo rilasciano il loro primo official live album 'stark naked and absolutely live' . Con questo album sono #1 nelle classifiche tedesche per 3 settimane.
Tengono il loro più grande concerto a Szchechin in Polania. Si sono esibiti di fronte ad una pubblico di 300.000 persone !
Dreamscapes continua: oltre alle versioni regolari delle canzoni gli Alphaville iniziano a pubblicare nuove esclusive canzoni sul loro sito ogni mese. Più tardi queste canzoni tratte da internet saranno anche disponibili ad alta qualità su CD.
2001:
Bernhard Lloyd pubblica il suo progetto da solista 'atlantic popes' - un progetto virtuale con sito (atlanticpopes.de) dedicato appositamente.
Marian Gold lavora - mentre scrive canzoni per il nuovo album - assieme a Klaus Schulze, Effjott Krüger e due altri titani della musica elettronica sul progetto 'sputnik roadhouse' per la TV tedesca "klassentreffen", trasmessa da SAT1. Sputnik Roadhouse lo si vede a sputnikroadhouse.de. Il primo DVD degli Alphavilles è in arrivo: fans dall'america lo rendono possibile trasmettendo dei filmati professionali del concerto tenuto nel 1999 a Salt Lake City.
Il sito www.alphaville.info viene rilanciato e completamente rifatto il 28 agosto 2001.
Poi in ottobre il progetto n° 9 di Dreamscapes viene terminato: il remix-album "forever pop". Esso comprende il remix di molti classici degli Alphaville, eseguiti da vari DJ: de phazz, paul van dyk, mark plati, f.a.f., josé alvarez brill, eiffel65 ed altri.
2002:
In aprile gli Alphaville iniziano il 'miracle healing tour' che li porta non solo in Svizzera, Ungheria, Repubblica Ceca e Austria ma anche attraverso tutta la Germania. Dopo aver eseguito moltissimi festival estivi la band sta preparando il nuovo album, che uscirà a gennaio 2003.
In dicembre Marian Gold gira con 'Nokia night of the proms' per la Germania.

Questo è "Forever Young" il loro primo album,
che racchiude i primissimi fantastici successi.
