HOW OUR PARENTS SPENT THEIR FREE TIME

My name’s Tiziana. I’m seventeen and I’m a young student of the “ Regina Margherita” high school in class 4Z. I want to talk to you about how our parents spent their free time when they were young. We talked about it in my class and from the confrontation with my classmates we realised that in those days our parents didn’t have much freedom because their parents were very strict, in particular with girls.

Girls stayed at home all day, learned to do housework, to embroider, to cook, etc.

Instead boys were freer than girls. They watched football matches on tv,went out with friends, went to the disco, played football or looked for a job.

Not all boys and girls finished high school; when girls finished middle school, at the age of 13, they stayed at home to help her mother in the kitchen or to do housework.

Instead when boys finished middle school they started to work.

The main aim of girls was to marry a rich man and to create a family; few girls finished high school and worked.

Almost every boy from 14 to 16 started to work to earn money for the family because in that age most families were large and only one salary wasn’t enough.

Today many things have changed because now most guys finish high school and go to university. Boys and girls are freer than their parents and go to the disco when they want.
