Arthropoda, Arachnida, Araneae

Arachnida, Araneae, Linyphiidae, Troglohyphantes pedemontanus (Gozo, 1908) - This species is a troglobite spider endemic of the Bossea Cave. The genus Troglohyphantes is widespread in all the Piemonte and other regions of the northern Italy and in the central Europe; the cases of endemites are frequent in this genus. The author found a lot of spider specimens of the genus Troglohyphantes in several caves in all the territory of the region, particularly in cold cavities situated over 1,000 m above the sea level. The specimen of T. pedemontanus in the photos is a female with about 4 mm of length of the body. These spiders are totally blind and well depigmented. They are predators, as most of the spiders and weave their thin cobwebs in the more hidden corners of the walls and also among the stones on the ground in the caves. To have an image of the size of this little spider, you can see the same specimen photograped on the author's forefinger (photo below).
