Crustacea, Amphipoda, Gammaridae, Niphargus cfr. stygius - Aquatic crustacean well adapted to the hypogean life, belonging to a genus widespread in the groundwaters and in the subterranean rivers. The specimen in the photos belongs to a species that live in the concretioned pools situated in the "Ramo delle Vaschette" (Little basins Branch) of the cave "Tana di Morbello" (Lair of Morbello) (4 Pi/AL), in the Alessandria province. This little crayfishes are selective detritivore and feed organic particle that pick up in the slime of the bottom's pools. Real size: about 7-8 mm.
