long
biography: |
Born in March 1977 near Venice. He started making his first music and noises
in 1982 with a Bontempi organ. He studied piano from 1983 to
1986, then he stopped and said (crying) "I don't want to
learn piano anymore, mum! It's too much difficult!".
However, he continued playing his keyboard developing "a
good ear" in recognising songs and melodies. In 1985 he
started programming in BASIC his first Toshiba-MSX 64K computer
(various graphic and sound programs copied from magazines about
low level programming; he had fun in modifying the code
especially with a 3D function plot). He also used a ZX-spectrum,
a Commodore 64 and a Commodore 16. In 1990 he started playing
guitar as a self-taught. In 1991 he started playing bass
guitar as a self-taught. He left the world of computing and
programming from 1992 to 1995, spending the big part of his time
in studying (math, physics and philosophy) and in playing with
local bands. In 1996 he discovered the world wide web and then
he got back to programming, learning c++ and Java. In 1996 he
also started making his first experiments with HTML, javascript
and Photoshop. In that year he also bought an Ensoniq 16 plus
sampler with his friends, discovering the world of digital
sampling and electronic synthesis. He kept on playing with local
bands until 2000. He also kept on working with graphics and the
web and he made a couple of websites. He will graduate from engineering (on wireless communications) in autumn 2002.
This project
In 2001 e.g.ø started to think about using the web to show his
very little work in music, programming and "digital-art"
that he has made in all these years. The reason why he does so
is not because he'd like to be a famous star or because he is a
pretentious exhibitionist; what he would like to do is a project
of "idea sharing" like "file sharing" in the
peer2peer networks (old Napster and now Gnutella, Kaza etc.).
Idea sharing
Idea sharing consists in publishing on the web mp3s, HTML works,
algorithms, images, ideas under the GNU GPL (General Public
License); that is, in a very synthetic way, "you can use
my ideas in your no-profit works, but please quote the source
saying where you get these ideas; if you modify the source,
please specify in you work the changes that you've made; if you
use these ideas and you earn money by doing so, please contact
e.g.ø with an email or SMS" (this is like what is done
with the free software licensed under the GNU GPL). E.g.ø's
ideas, now, could give you some hints in generating new sounds
from images, in writing HTML pages, in making a T-shirt, etc...
and the best thing to do to share ideas is to create a Network (Deleuze
would say "making rhizome"). The link
page is an example of my little network on the web: with
these people I share various ideas via e-mail and often we help
each other.
Why should everybody do so?
Are you an "artist" or, better, a person with ideas to
share? So why don't you do so making a web page with your
little projects, papers, ideas so as to help other people or
simply to make their brains think? E.g.ø's ideas often come
from visiting other websites or listening to other music; and
that is not copying but "getting inspired". "If
you have music, share your mp3s; if you have ideas, share your
brain". Maybe all this goes beyond art, but actually
this is not an artistic site, or a site about Art, or the
homepage of an artist. E.g.ø is a programmer, a musician and an
active person who can't live without doing all this.
