Despite being awarded the Country Music Association's Horizon Award as the best rising talent of 1991, Lynne seemed to find little satisfaction in country music's mainstream
Once her contract at Epic ran out, Lynne signed with the tiny Morgan Creek label, a fledgling independent
On Restless , her second independent label project, Lynne manages to keep much of the country-jazz and Western swing sound of Temptation, but without the big band
Lynne's trademark is her huge voice, but there is much more to her voice than volume
Lynne actually had a few brushes with success on her three Epic albums, but the folks at the major labels had no idea what they had on their hands and tried to turn her into a Reba clone
Instead, Shelby Lynne bolted for the independents, shunning the bottom line for the sake of artistic satisfaction
