  • As with Come on Pilgrim , the band delivered a wide range of song styles – though sonically, Surfer Rosa was similar to Come On Pilgrim – from the drum-driven 'Bone Machine' (the unique drum sound cited by later artists in Surfer Rosa is a result of Steve Albini's influence on the record), that showed a trademark propensity for surreal lyrics, to pop guitar songs such as 'Broken Face', and 'Break my Body' and 'Brick is Red' to the sonic attack of 'Something Against You', with Black Francis' distorted screaming a prominent feature in the song (the album was later named as one of the 50 Heaviest Albums of All Time by )

  • At this time, Roth released a media statement where he apologized to the media and the fans, stating that he was an unwitting participant in a publicity stunt perpetrated by the Van Halens and Ray Daniels (their manager) in order to sell more copies of the greatest hits album

  • In July 2004, Van Halen released their second Greatest Hits compilation, featuring three new songs with Hagar: 'It's About Time', 'Up For Breakfast', and 'Learning to See.' Again, public reaction to the new songs was mixed

  • | Inductees: John “Bonzo” Bonham (drums; born May 31, 1948, died September 25, 1980), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards; born January 3, 1946), Jimmy Page (guitar; born January 9, 1944), Robert Plant (vocals; born August 20, 1948) Combining the visceral power and intensity of hard rock with the finesse and delicacy of British folk music, Led Zeppelin redefined rock in the Seventies and for all time

  • Their self-titled first album found them elongating blues forms with extended solos and psychedelic effects, most notably on the agonized “Dazed and Confused, ” and launching pithy hard-rock rave-ups like “Good Times Bad Times” and “Communication Breakdown.” Led Zeppelin II found them further tightening up and modernizing their blues-rock approach on such tracks as “Whole Lotta Love, ” “Heartbreaker” and “Ramble On.” Led Zeppelin III took a more acoustic, folk-oriented approach on such numbers as Leadbelly’s “Gallows Pole” and their own “Tangerine, ” yet they also rocked furiously on “Immigrant Song” and offered a lengthy electric blues, “Since I’ve Been Loving You.” The group’s untitled fourth album (a.k.a., Led Zeppelin IV , “The Runes Album” and ZOSO ), which appeared in 1971, remains an enduring rock milestone and their defining work

NPR : 'The 100 Best Texas Songs'
For the April 2004 issue of Texas Monthly, writers Jeff McCord and John Morthland
took on an ambitious assignment: coming up with a list of the 100 best Texas ...

  • As for the non-natives, they needed to have spent a good part of their career inside the state lines, and their songs had to be a product of their time here or related in some way to the state.” Jeff McCord and John Morthland , April 22, 2004 · For this month's issue of Texas Monthly , writers Jeff McCord and John Morthland took on an ambitious assignment: coming up with a list of the 100 best Texas songs

  • As for the non-natives, they needed to have spent a good part of their career inside the state lines, and their songs had to be a product of their time here or related in some way to the state

  • So the two of us whittled them down by asking ourselves a few more questions: Was the song inherently Texan, either in style or in subject matter? Was it a big enough hit to become a part of the vernacular? Did it stand the test of time? But this was never about scientific method; it was about music

  • Choosing the best was a subjective process, and sometimes we went on gut feeling

  • 2 Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys 'New San Antonio Rose' The King of Western Swing's all-time best-seller is also a great example of his particular genius: If a more conventional big band had cut this, it would have been considered a pop record

    .:: Official BOSTON Website ::.
Official site for the band Boston.

  • In what is now classic rock history, it took the charts and the world by storm, going to number one and becoming the best selling album of all time, a title which was held for many years

  • The album was rush-recorded at the studio's insistence, a far cry from the seven-year long ordeal that was Boston , which explains the albums short, 33-minute running time

  • Both Boston albums have now been remastered for the first time each, by head band member Tom Scholz

  • The vocals soar around you and you realize that no matter how many times you hear the song, it will never turn stale

  • All have been played countless times and are mostly likely all worthy of their own individual reviews

  • Probably the best thing I can write about Boston is this: If you don't own it, there's no better time to repent your ways and buy this album

  • If you do own Boston, there's no better time to update your old CD with a new, remixed, and sonically superior version

  • Even with these complaints, it's worth owning the album for the amazing times when everything clicks (which thankfully is fairly often) on tracks like "Feelin' Satisfied, " "Don't Be Afraid, " and of course "Don't Look Back"

  • Before I went to work for Warner Bros, I had been a dj and rock journalist, so I was really used to listening to music all the time

  • By the time I wound up running Reprise Records, it was next to impossible for me listen to anything we weren't planning out a marketing campaign for

  • When I played it for Joni at her house, she was so excited she started dancing-- with abandon! Joni is funny about other artists and sometimes I think the best policy is to just never mention any other singers to her

  • The descending chorus makes this sound like one of the golden oldies from the late 60’s, truly one of the most touching songs I have heard in long time

  • The next song, Slightly All the Time gets started a lot faster than its predecessor and it is an all round more lively and interesting song

  • To me, Slightly All the Time seems to have more content than Facelift and it is a very enjoyable song in full

  • Slightly all the time (3/5) 3

  • Posted Wednesday, August 09, 2006, 05:24 EST | Prog Related (Studio Album, 1972) Avg: 4.83/5 from 27 ratings Review by (Ziggy Stardust) Time Was, when there were things around to be afraid of! I actually had never heard of Wishbone Ash before PA

  • Time Was is the highlight of the album, starting with a nice slow acoustic guitar driven - intro and then just exploding to a wonderful rocker

  • Sometime World also starts slowly with nice vocals (damn the british accent is nice :)) and then bursting to wonderful rocker and masterful guitarsolos

  • Yes this is a masterpiece, though not fulltimeprog

  • 'The Festival of Death' is a direct continuation and development of all the previous ideas, culminating in actual music - the intention seems to be to create the longest 'noise' intro in history and suspend the time it takes to break into anything resembling melody, harmony or form for as long as possible - leaving timbre as the most exposed and developed attribute, and rhythm the one lifeline
