Welcome to The Design Centre For CPTED Vancouver CPTED is an acronym for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
Definition:&“To enhance the urban environment through design that reduces opportunities for crime and nuisance activity&” We are a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia with a mission to provide a resource for CPTED design and concepts, and increase awareness and education of this approach based on environmental criminology
This page provides a brief synopsis of each of the sections: Provides a summary and translation of academic research in the field of environmental criminology in a useable format for design professionals
This concept suggests that when considering CPTED design, the site or building must first be analyzed to establish the crime levels and types, or the &‘actual risk&’ of crime
This process has been developed based on a variety of neighbourhoods and sites in the Greater Vancouver area ranging from neighbourhood plans, rapid transit stations, mega-block developments, park designs, public realm plazas and medium density residential developments

Other than that, I guess I'll be supporting the Jersey designer.Looks like Bravo is launching a similar show, now in casting
And as for the entries from the kids? Who says video games depresses their imagination? Check them all out, I just realized the artists/designers who work on DVD or video game covers don't get much recognition
What was the last piece of news you ever read about a box cover art design (other than complaints of it being too violent, etc.)

Below are my quick takes on the 11 designs, feel free to disagree
I can't believe this was passed off as a design, perhaps something is missing in the translation, they were trying to go for something deep and totally missed the target

The confabulating-arranger model of IF
Article by Jorn Barger about the confabulating-arranger model of IF.
The confabulating-arranger model of IF [Prior] IF, AI, and the confabulating-arranger model of interactive fiction by Jorn Barger (email@example.com) September 26, 1994 Abstract: One plausible design-paradigm for interactive fiction might be to supply IF authors with an extensive library of intelligent objects that 'know' how to interact realistically, including a rich model of human behavior
so consequently, within these design paradigms, even high-budget efforts are doomed to produce only simplistic and uninvolving games...
But how do we get there from here What sorts of design strategies might make these new forms of IF possible? Certainly, one step in the right direction will be to teach computers the basic laws by which real objects interact, which is one of the traditional challenges of artificial intelligence (AI)
The Cyc project as a universal knowledgebase The last thirty years of academic AI research have produced very little that computer-game designers would find useful
Many of these are available free on the Internet, where the newsgroup rec.arts.int-fiction supports a thriving subculture of text-adventure designers working in these formats
At Last, Foam Puppet Fabrication Explained!
Article from Animation World Magazine. An overview of the general methods used
in stop motion puppet fabrication starting from design, then machining jointed ...
Design, armature machining, sculpting, moldmaking and casting, painting and detailing, lighting and cinematography, and of course, performance animation, are the primary skills required to master this wonderfully magical art form
I have designed this article as a cursory description of the stop-motion process
The disciplines include: design of the puppet, armature machining, sculpting, moldmaking and casting, fabrication and detailing
Design With Attitude Many puppet animators start with an idea for a creature to animate
Since the minotaur was supposed to have been a dangerous animal, bloodthirsty and violent, the idea was to design the character so that it is indeed imbued with these attributes
To design the minotaur with skinny legs, a pot belly and short stubby horns would hardly qualify it as a frightening monster
Consequently, the solution decided upon was to design it with a hulking body: huge arms, rippling with muscles and veins, sinister deep-set beady eyes and long, sharp horns
In short, try to design the character you want, by incorporating into its design physical attributes that would heighten and augment what you wish for the creature to convey
