Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0
Recommendation from the W3C, which explains to developers and authors how to make
Web content accessible to people with disabilities.
The guidelines are intended for all Web content developers (page authors and site designers) and for developers of
This is a reference document for accessibility principles and design ideas
The Techniques Document has been designed to track changes in technology and is expected to be updated more frequently than the current document
For those unfamiliar with accessibility issues pertaining to Web page design, consider that many users may be operating in contexts very different from your own: They may not be able to see, hear, move, or may not be able to process some types of information easily or at all
Content developers must consider these different situations during page design
While there are several situations to consider, each accessible design choice generally benefits several disability groups at once and the Web community as a whole
The guidelines discuss accessibility issues and provide accessible design solutions
If the photograph has been designed to tell the user to select the image (e.g., by clicking on it) for information about the earth, equivalent text would be 'Information about the Earth'

Building bug-free OO software: An introduction to Design by Contract
Advanced use of assertions for clearer specifications and greater software
reliability. By OO guru Bertrand Meyer, creator of Eiffel.
Building bug-free O-O software: An introduction to Design by Contract(TM) Eiffel Software is the pioneer of Design by Contract and the Component Revolution

Upcoming: A two day session, Eiffel and Design by Contract™ by Dr
The seminar brochure in PDF format is available at: Overview The notion of Design by Contract is central in the systematic approach to object-oriented software construction, as embodied in the Eiffel method
This article introduces such a method, known as Design by Contract
Under the Design by Contract theory, a software system is viewed as a set of communicating components whose interaction is based on precisely defined specifications of the mutual obligations -- contracts
The benefits of Design by Contract include the following: A better understanding of the object-oriented method and, more generally, of software construction
The Design by Contract theory, then, suggests associating a specification with every software element
This has the advantage that the specification language is embedded in the design and programming language (here Eiffel), whereas formal specification languages are typically non-executable or, if they are executable, can only be used for prototypes

Robonaut - Home
The Robonaut project seeks to develop and demonstrate a robotic system that can
function as an EVA astronaut equivalent.
Robonaut is a humanoid robot designed by the Robot Systems Technology Branch at NASA's Johnson Space Center in a collaborative effort with DARPA
Robonaut is designed to be used for "EVA" tasks, i.e., those which were not specifically designed for robots
Over the past five decades, space flight hardware has been designed for human servicing
While the depth and breadth of human performance is beyond the current state of the art in robotics, NASA targeted the reduced dexterity and performance of a suited astronaut as Robonaut's design goals, specifically using the work envelope, ranges of motion, strength and endurance capabilities of space walking humans
This website describes the design effort for the entire Robonaut system, including mechanisms, avionics, computational architecture and telepresence control
Mechanism Design The manipulator and dexterous hand have been developed with a substantial investment in mechatronics design
The theory that manufacturing tools caused humans to evolve by requiring skills that could be naturally selected is applied to Robonaut's design as well

The current design of bond future resembles an agricultural contract
A better design would prevent squeezes, and thus allow a bond future to better represent its underlyings
Further, selling a specially designed futures contract would reduce dealers’ balance sheet usage, again increasing revenue, and would also permit the authorities to match cash inflows with cash outflows
