AH-64 Apache - Military Aircraft
Federation of American Scientists Military Analysis Network summary of the
characteristics, fielding schedule, history, and missions of the aircraft.
It is a quick-reacting, airborne weapon system that can fight close and deep to destroy, disrupt, or delay enemy forces
Rounding out the Apaches deadly punch are 1, 200 rounds of ammunition for its Area Weapons System (AWS), 30MM Automatic Gun
The Apache's navigation equipment consists of a doppler navigation system, and most aircraft are equipped with a GPS receiver
This is used to designate for the Hellfire missile system as well as provide range to target information for the fire control computer's calculations of ballistic solutions
Threat identification through the FLIR system is extremely difficult
This limitation is present in all systems that use FLIR for target acquisition
Overwater operations severely degrade navigation systems not upgraded with embedded GPS
Below 3 km visibility, the attack aircraft is vulnerable to enemy ADA systems
Apache helicopters played a key role in the 1989 action in Panama, where much of its activity was at night, when the AH-64's advanced sensors and sighting systems were effective against Panamanian government forces
The AH-64A&s advanced sensors and sighting systems proved effective in removing the cover of darkness from anti-government forces
B-52 Stratofortress - United States Nuclear Forces
Photos, and description of mission, features, upgrades, specifications, and history.
Starting in 1989, an on-going modification incorporates the global positioning system, heavy stores adaptor beams for carrying 2, 000 pound munitions and additional smart weapons capability
All B-52s are equipped with an electro-optical viewing system that uses platinum silicide forward-looking infrared and high resolution low-light-level television sensors to augment the targeting, battle assessment, flight safety and terrain-avoidance system, thus further improving its combat ability and low-level flight capability
Because the H model was not originally designated for conventional ordnance delivery, weapons delivery was assigned to the radar navigator and the 'bombardier/navigator' crew station designation of the earlier B-52 series was not used.) The controls and displays for aircraft systems are distributed among the crew stations on the basis of responsibilities
The B-52 is a typical representation of the misnomer of 'legacy' system
While the B-52 exceeds 30 years of age, new modifications and mission capabilities are constantly updating the system
The Air Force Mission Support System supports the Air Force movement of all mission planning to a common system

Military Radio Nomenclature
Comprehensive article by Ray Mote from Electric Radio.
He hopes it helps you with these crazy nomenclature systems! Please send any comments or suggestions directly to Ray at rmote@rain.org
File: C:WORDWSMILARTICLESNOMENNOMENART 6 January 1994 World War Two Nomenclature Systems by Ray Mote, K5FKT (ex-W6RIC) 6 January 1994 1
Introduction: Like many, I struggled for years to gain an understanding of the nomenclature systems in use during World War Two
Overview: Three separate nomenclature systems were in use at the beginning of the war: the Army nomenclature system, the Navy model letter/type number system, and the Navy Mark/Mod system
These were joined in late 1942 by the new Joint Army-Navy (or 'AN') System of nomenclature
The Army system featured the familiar SCR, SCM, SCS designators for systems, and BC, FT, HS, etc
for system components
The Navy used a series of two and three-letter designators for systems, while using a 5-digit type number for each system component
Both of these systems appear to have been in use since World War One or earlier
A second Navy system used Mark and Mod numbers for various ordnance items such as guns and shipboard fire control radars
Combat Aircraft of the Indian Air Force
Pictures/Details of operational Indian Air Force combat planes.
The aircraft's infra-red search and track system, laser rangefinder, radar, and helmet mounted target designator provide detection, tracking, and attack capability
The radar has the capacity to search, detect, and track up to 10 targets with automatic threat assessment and prioritization.; The aircraft has an OEPS-27 electro-optic system which includes an infra-red search and track (IRST) sensor collimated with a laser rangefinder
The range of the electro-optical system against a reheated target is from 40 to 100 kilometres depending on the aspect angle presented by the target
The countermeasures system includes a pilot illumination radar warning receiver, chaff and infra-red decoy dispensers, and an active multimode jammer located in the wing-tip pods
The twin-shaft turbo-fan engine has after-turbine flow mixing, a common afterburner, an all mode variable area jet exhaust nozzle, an independent start and a main electronic control and a reserve hydromechanical engine mode control system
The fly-by-wire system in the Su-27SK uses quadruple redundancy of transducers, units and interfaces of the vital control channels to perform the following functions: longitudinal control provision of stability and controllability for longitudinal, lateral and yaw control control of the aircraft configuration in maneuvers restriction of parameters to keep within g-load and angle of attack limitations decrease of aerodynamic loading to conform to limitations of aircraft structure The automatic flight control is linked to the navigation system, weapon control and command guidance equipment
USS Pampanito - ECM Mark II
What was the ECM Mk II and why was it important.
A cryptographic system consists of the combination of cipher machine, operating procedures and management of keys
If the system is well designed and implemented correctly, cipher text can only be converted back to plain text (deciphered) by someone with all three elements of the system
forces had analyzed many Japanese messages and as a result of much brilliant and hard work were able to reproduce their enemy's inadequately designed and implemented cryptographic system
This is called cryptanalysis or 'breaking the system'
cryptographic system that revolved around the ECM Mark II
The ECM Mark II based cryptographic system is not known to have ever been broken by an enemy and was secure throughout WW II
The system was retired by the U.S
Axis powers (primarily Germany) did however periodically break the lower grade systems used by Allied forces
Early in the war (notably during the convoy battle of the Atlantic and the North Africa campaign) the breaking of Allied systems contributed to Axis success
cryptographic systems and vulnerable Axis systems directly contributed the success of the Allied powers during WW II thereby shortening the war by years and saving countless human lives

Ferguson Society
An history of the development of the Ferguson tractor.
Through his inventions, he has rightly been given the title of the 'father' of the systems universally adopted by all modern post War tractor makers
The Ferguson System of farming did not come about by chance or accident
(See following article) Nearly twenty years of continuous research and development from 1917 to 1936 were occupied with getting his System perfected and marketable
Another 10 years of practical product development right up to 1948 and beyond brought the whole System to farmers' of every kind - arable, livestock and horticulture
Because the Ferguson System was so efficient and innovative many of those implements were entirely new to farming
Thus the term Ferguson System of farming
Following the famous handshake deal with Henry Ford in October 1938, Ferguson System production continued in the USA as the type 9N/2N, 306, 221 being built from mid 1939 to mid 1947
Farmers literally changed the way they farmed because of the Ferguson System and the world's other tractor makers had to copy it or die
((Note, the 368, 670 quoted above does NOT include 118, 125 8N Ferguson System tractors made without Harry Ferguson's consent by Ford between the end of 9N production in June 1947 and the start of the TO in October 1948
Potassium in Foods, to Treat Rheumatoid Arthritis and Heart Disease
Detailed information on the potassium content in foods.
It has been proposed that vitamin D has an affect dampening the immune system, especially with regard to multiple sclerosis [Cantorna] and thus dampening inflammation during rheumatoid arthritis, It is more likely that the affect on magnesium is involved, and thus indirectly powers the potassium pumps [Grace] or by powering the calcium pumps affects pain
You can recognize shingles by large patches of a painful rash which appears on one side of the body in people under emotional stress [Irwin], older people, or people whose immune system has been compromised
The symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome are impaired sleep, loss of memory, sore throat, muscle and joint aches, headache, cough, photophobia, extreme long lasting fatigue after physical exertion, night sweats, [Evengard] depression that has much lower ACTH and cortisol secretion than other types of depression [Demitrack], lymph node pain, eye pain and fibromyalgia (muscle pain) [Bell 1994] as well as white spots on MRI brain scans and sometimes loss of fingerprints, a chronic low level activation of the immune system [Cannon] which last may be accounting for many of the symptoms, but all symptoms highly variable, possibly because the part of the brain attacked varies or because there are different varieties of virus or both
