CRITICAL NUCLEAR WEAPON DESIGN INFORMATION

Guide of CRITICAL NUCLEAR WEAPON DESIGN INFORMATION

Cox Report - May 25, 1999
[CNN]

  • Nuclear Warhead Design Information page 3 Proliferation & The PRC is one of the worldís leading proliferators of weapons technologies

  • thermonuclear warhead design information, therefore, include the possible proliferation of the worldís most sophisticated nuclear weapons technology to nations hostile to the United States

  • How the PRC Acquired Thermonuclear Warhead Design Information from the United States: & PRC Espionage and Other PRC Techniques & The Select Committee judges that the PRCís intelligence collection efforts to develop modern thermonuclear warheads have focused primarily on the following U.S

  • & The PRC also rigorously mined unclassified technical information and academic publications, including information from the National Technical Information Center and other sources

  • Peter Lee, who had been a scientist at both Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories and was convicted in 1997 of passing classified information to the PRC, gave the PRC unclassified technical reports upon request

  • & PRC scientists have used their extensive laboratory-to-laboratory interactions with the United States to gain information from U.S

    Cox Report - May 25, 1999
    [CNN]

  • Although there is limited information on how the PRC is using HPCs for military applications, HPCs could facilitate many of the PRCís military modernization objectives

  • Given the lack of a proven and effective verification regime, it is possible that these HPCs have been diverted for unauthorized uses, which could include the following: Upgrading and maintaining nuclear and chemical weapons Equipping mobile forces with high-technology weapons Building a modern fleet of combat and combat-support aircraft and submarines Conducting anti-submarine warfare Developing a reliable, accurate ballistic and cruise missile force Equalizing a battlefield with electronic or information warfare Improving command, control, communications, and intelligence capabilities & To realize the full potential of the acquired HPCs, the PRC must be able to perform system integration, develop or procure application software, obtain weapon systems test data, and institute quality-controlled production processes

  • These HPCs may be powerful enough to help the PRC make use of design information that it stole from the United States, including design information for the W-70 neutron bomb and the W-88 Trident D-5 thermonuclear warhead ó without further physical testing

    North Korea's nuclear program, 2005 | thebulletin.org
Review of the current status of their nuclear program.

  • The United States has not provided any public information that substantiates its existence

  • In the 60 years since the Manhattan Project, a large amount of information on nuclear weapons design has become available, and a medium capability certainly seems possible

    The Khariton version | thebulletin.org
A history of the politics and policies of the Soviet atomic and thermonuclear weapons research by one of the USSR's leading nuclear scientists.

  • The book contained a description of the origins of the Soviet atomic energy program based on information available to Americans at that time

  • The absence of solid information created fertile ground for fantasy

  • After the experts from Arzamas-16 confirmed that the information was reliable (which required a great number of meticulous experiments and calculations), a decision was made to use the American design, which was tested and known to work, for the first explosion

  • The decision to use the American design, and information about how it was obtained, were strictly secret

  • In these letters Kurchatov compared the results of Soviet physicists and the information acquired by Soviet intelligence

  • Although he regarded information obtained from intelligence sources cautiously, Kurchatov immediately noticed that there were, in his words, 'some fragmentary comments about the possibility of using not only uranium 235 but also uranium 238 in a 'uranium boiler, '' and that 'perhaps the products of nuclear combustion in the 'uranium boiler' may be used instead of uranium 235 as a material for the atomic bomb.' In his March 22, 1943 letter to Pervukhin, he wrote: 'With these comments in mind, I attentively looked through the latest research in Physical Review on transuranic elements (eka-rhenium-239 and eka-osmium-239) [neptunium and plutonium], and I was able to determine a new direction in the solution of the whole uranium problem

Nuclear Weapons Responsibility: A presentation by Ted Taylor
Transcript of Dr. Ted Taylor presentation given at 1998 Mickleton (NJ) Quaker Meeting.

  • It was unclassified; it was being done for public information; it was to give people an idea of how dangerous the arms race was, what awful things people could come up with

  • If you're not too good at it and are simply using information that's out in the public in encyclopedias and so on, and sort of cobble something up that would be, maybe, a tenth or so of the explosive power of the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima but would kill everybody in the U.S

  • The information has spread, worldwide, about how to make simple, simple-minded, unreliable, fairly heavy but transportable, and very fancy, sophisticated, double-stage weapons that can blow up a big city or a part of a big city
