Alec Baldwin, Basinger in Custody
Dispute - LOS ANGELES - Actors Alec Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger
traded personal jabs through their attorneys Monday, with each claiming
amid a custody dispute that the other has serious emotional problems. In
court papers, Baldwin claimed Basinger "has a pathological need" to turn
their daughter against him, and he is asking for a psychological
evaluation of the actress. Baldwin lawyer Vicki Greene argued in a court
hearing Monday that Basinger had tainted 10-year-old Ireland's view of her
father. Basinger's attorney, Neal Hersh, dismissed the claim and said
Baldwin was the problem. "We believe that Mr. Baldwin has severe emotional
problems," Hersh said. "Mr. Baldwin's lawyers attempted to cast terrible
aspersions toward Kim rather than focusing on the main issue, which is his
daughter." Baldwin was not at the hearing, which discussed his telephone
time with his daughter and whether Baldwin should get an extra weekend
with her when a holiday is interrupted by a court-ordered custody hearing.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Maren Nelson said she found no
reason to alter the custody agreement. She did not rule on the
psychological evaluation request. The acting duo married Aug. 19, 1993.
They separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002. Basinger declined to comment
outside the courtroom. She and Baldwin are scheduled to return to court

Baldwin battles Basinger -
Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has accused his ex-wife, sexy LA Confidential
star Kim Basinger, of deliberately trying to alienate him from their
10-year-old daughter in a bitter custody battle. A lawyer for the star of
films such as The Hunt for Red October (1990), The Marrying Man (1991) and
2003's The Cooler told a Los Angeles judge that Basinger had tried to
poison the child Ireland's mind against her father. "Ms Basinger has so
contaminated this child now that she doesn't even want to be with her
father," lawyer Vicki Greene told Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner
Maren Nelson today. The former Tinseltown lovers, whose seven-year
marriage ended in December 2000 with a separation and a divorce a year
later, have been at loggerheads for more than a year over which of them
should win custody over Ireland. Outside court, the 51-year-old Basinger's
lawyer, Neal Hersh, hit back at the allegations made by Baldwin's lawyers
in front of the judge. "I found it very disturbing that Mr. Baldwin's
lawyers attempted to cast terrible aspersions toward Kim rather than
focusing on the main issue, which was before the court today, which is his
daughter, Ireland," Hersh said. As part of their bitter custody row over
their daughter, Baldwin filed court papers seeking a psychological
evaluation of Basinger, who has starred in movies including 1986's steamy
Nine 1/2 Weeks, the James Bond flick Never Say Never Again (1983) and as
rapper Eminem's mother in 8 Mile (2002). The papers claimed Basinger
needed therapy and has a "pathological need" to alienate the child against
Baldwin, 47. Basinger attended today's hearing, but did not comment inside
or outside of court on her ex-husband's allegations. Baldwin, who was not
at the hearing, is in New York, Greene said. The hearing was set to
discuss Baldwin's telephone time with Ireland and whether the actor should
get an extra weekend with his daughter when a holiday with her mother
interrupts the court-ordered custody schedule. |

BALDWIN QUESTIONS BASINGER'S MENTAL
HEALTH - LATEST: ALEC BALDWIN's custody battle
with KIM BASINGER over their daughter IRELAND has taken another nasty
turn, with the actor raising questions about his ex-wife's mental health.
In new court papers obtained by entertainment website TMZ.com, Baldwin
claims Basinger needs therapy and has a "pathological need" to alienate
their 10-year-old daughter from him. Attorney HARVEY LEVIN, managing
editor of TMZ.com, says, "Alec says Kim tried to block him from flying
with their daughter because Kim said she was better able to protect her
from terrorists at the airport.... "Alec graduated from (New York
University) but he says Kim thinks he's not capable of helping Ireland
with her fourth grade homework." On Monday (31OCT05), the former couple
will try to settle their ongoing custody battle and resolve other bitter
claims, including Baldwin's request, calling for a "psychological
evaluation of her mental state and fitness to parent". Baldwin and
Basinger divorced in 2002, after a nine-year marriage. |

Baldwin, Basinger Back to Battle
- Alec Baldwin has called off his custody truce
with Kim Basinger and reignited the bitter battle between the dueling
ex-twosome. The celeb duo had a showdown Monday in Los Angeles Superior
Court over the terms of custody for their 10-year-old daughter, Ireland,
during which Baldwin's lawyer accused Basinger of turning the child
against her father. Basinger attended the hearing, but did not speak.
Baldwin was absent and was in New York, his lawyer said. The hearing was
originally set to discuss Baldwin's telephone time with his daughter and
whether he was entitled to an extra weekend with Ireland if a holiday
spent with her mother interrupted his court-ordered custody schedule.
Basinger's lawyer argued that holidays were a lose-lose situation for both
parents, with each occasionally missing time with their daughter, and that
Baldwin's schedule should not be shifted as a result. "It's not just a
tweaking," attorney Neal Hersh said of Baldwin's request. "It is a change
increasing his time." Superior Court Commissioner Maren E. Nelson said she
saw no reason to alter the custody agreement with a respect to those
issues. "There's trade-offs here," she said. Baldwin and Basinger
previously reached an agreement in March 2004 to share custody of Ireland,
after a judge ruled in Baldwin's favor on the matter. Prior to the
agreement, Basinger had custody of the child on the West Coast, while
Baldwin, an East Coast dweller, had limited visitation rights. However,
Baldwin has been less than satisfied with the terms of the agreement and
even filed a police report against Basinger last month after he went to
pick up Ireland for a scheduled visit and found that neither the child nor
his ex-wife was at home. The actor has complained in court documents that
Basinger has been deliberately trying to turn Ireland against him because
she is still bitter over their divorce. The twosome were married from 1993
until 2000, and Basinger filed for divorce in 2001. "Ms. Basinger has so
contaminated this child now that she doesn't even want to be with her
father," Baldwin's lawyer, Vicki Greene, said Monday in court. In his
filing, Baldwin also suggested that Basinger has been unwilling to
accommodate his professional schedule, despite the fact that her own
day-to-day routine is somewhat less taxing: "[Baldwin] lives and works in
two states and often has professional commitments in other states," the
court papers filed by Baldwin's legal team state. "[Basinger] has
dramatically fewer professional and non-professional commitments as
compared to [Baldwin]. "Although [Baldwin] would not venture to change
dates to negatively impact [Basinger's] schedule, he finds that [Basinger]
often has no schedule at all." Further fueling the flames, Baldwin
reportedly demanded that Basinger undergo a psychological evaluation to
determine her mental state with regard to the custody dispute, according
to Extra. The papers suggest that Basinger needs therapy, due to her
"pathological need" to alienate Ireland from her father. According to
Baldwin, Ireland "lives in a constant state of tension wherein she must
never display or divulge her true feelings for her father because of the
mother's all-consuming and bitter feelings toward me." On Monday, Nelson
said she was willing to rule that Baldwin was entitled to an extra three
days with Ireland, due to the visit she missed with Baldwin in September,
but Greene said that the actor was not willing to fly to Los Angeles for a
visit until Basinger sought counseling. Outside court, Hersh commented on
Baldwin's allegations against Basinger. "I found it very disturbing that
Mr. Baldwin's lawyers attempted to cast terrible aspersions toward Kim
rather than focusing on the main issue, which was before the court today,
which is his daughter, Ireland," Hersh said. Stay tuned for the next round
in the Baldwin-Basinger custody saga--we're sure there's plenty more to
come. |

Baldwin and Basinger in court row
- Basinger and Baldwin separated in 2000 and
divorced in 2002 Actors Alec Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Basinger have
traded personal insults in an ongoing custody dispute over their
10-year-old daughter Ireland. In court papers, Baldwin said Basinger had a
"pathological need" to turn their daughter against him and requested she
undergo a psychological evaluation. Basinger's lawyers, meanwhile, said he
had "severe emotional problems" and was casting "terrible aspersions".
Both parties are scheduled to return to court in Los Angeles on 13
December. Basinger and Baldwin separated in 2000 after seven years of
marriage and divorced in 2002. The former lives in Los Angeles, while the
latter resides in New York. 'Contaminated' "Ms Basinger has so
contaminated this child now that she doesn't even want to be with her
father," said Baldwin's lawyer Vicki Greene on Monday. Outside court,
however, Basinger's lawyer Neal Hersh said his client's ex-husband was
ignoring "the main issue, which is his daughter" by questioning the
actress' mental health. Baldwin, 47, was not at Monday's hearing, which
discussed his "telephone time" with Ireland and whether he should get an
extra weekend with her to make up for a holiday that will be interrupted
by a future court hearing. Basinger, 51, was present but declined to
comment outside the courtroom. Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner
Maren Nelson said she found no reason to alter the custody agreement. She
made no ruling on the psychological evaluation request. |

Baldwin, Bassinger reheat custody
fight - Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger renewed
their bitter custody fight in Los Angeles Superior Court Monday. Basinger
was in the courtroom as her ex-husband's attorney accused her of turning
their 10-year-old daughter against her father, E! Online reported. Baldwin
was in New York and did not attend the hearing. The couple was to have
settled a dispute over Baldwin's telephone time and his custody schedule.
But during the hearing, in which Basinger did not speak, Baldwin's
attorney claimed the actress "has so contaminated this child now that she
doesn't even want to be with her father," E! said. TV's "Extra" reports
Baldwin has asked that Basinger be forced to undergo therapy because of
her "pathological need" to alienate Ireland from her father. No ruling was
made Monday on that request, however. |
