Rydell Takes 'Shot' With Yari Prods.
Mark Rydell has found his next project in "Jump Shot." The project is being set up at Bob Yari Productions, with Bob Yari executive producing and financing the film. Rydell will direct and also will produce together with David Greathouse.
Kim Basinger is understood to be circling the project, for which she is being sought for a leading role. Christopher Walken is also involved in early talks about the project. The film is based on a script by Robert Tannen and is described as having a "Traffic"-like... |
|
Sounds like Kim Basinger is coming aboard Mark Rydell's saga of corruption and gambling addiction surrounding a college basketball competition, "Jump Shot." We get word they've been casting about for a juvenile actress to play Kim's daughter in the drama slated to begin shooting mid-January. Rydell, whose directing credits include such gems as "On Golden Pond," hasn't directed a feature since the 1994 Richard Gere-Sharon Stone thriller "Intersection." |

Archiviati i film-panettone arrivano titoli molti attesi.

11 gennaio: Danny DeVito, Kim Basinger, Nick Cannon, Forest Whitaker, Carla Gugino, Jay Mohr, Kelsey Grammer and Ray Liotta are all set to join director Mark Rydell on the indie ensemble drama "Jump Shot," which begins shooting January 18th in Los Angeles says today's The Hollywood Reporter.
Robert Tannen penned the script, which is a series of intertwining stories on how gambling and drugs destroy people's lives that all converges during a championship college basketball game. Amongst these 'short cuts' are subplots such as a gambling-compulsive housewife, a bookie trying to go straight, and a guy trying to help his brother out.
Rydell also will produce with David Greathouse and Bob Yari, who will finance through his Bob Yari Prods. shingle. The German film fund Apollo also is involved in financing and producing the project. |

Kim Basinger calling...
- While TV's "24" simply could not exist without the cell phone, that wonderful invention is the actual plot hook in "Cellular." The suspense thriller starring Kim Basinger underperformed at the box office in September, but it deserves better and gets another chance when it hits DVD on Tuesday (New Line, 95 mins., PG-13, $27.95).
For once, Basinger's nervous, uncertain screen presence is appropriate. She plays a dutiful mother who is snatched with her little boy from their home. The brutal kidnappers want something from her husband, but she has no idea what.
While locked in a strange attic, she manages to wire up a smashed phone and make a Hail Mary call to anyone out there. She reaches the Nokia of a 20-ish girl-watcher (Chris Evans of "Not Another Teen Movie"), who shifts from skeptical to heroically helpful when he realizes the woman crying for help is not kidding. He must race to find her without losing the signal.
First-time director David R. Ellis was second-unit director on the first "Harry Potter" and the second "Matrix," so he knows how to keep the action moving. He and writers Larry Cohen and Chris Morgan lay out their strategy in a joint commentary. (Cohen previously explored his telephone fixation with the 2002 hit "Phone Booth.")
The disk also has deleted scenes and three featurettes. One of them takes a look at how cell phones work. |

Basinger, Sutherland Joining Douglas in 'Sentinel'
- LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Kim Basinger (news) and Kiefer Sutherland are in negotiations to star alongside Michael Douglas (news) in "The Sentinel," a political thriller set up at 20th Century Fox.
The script, based on a book by Gerald Petievich, centers on a Secret Service agent (Douglas) who is having an affair with the first lady. When another agent assigned to the White House is murdered, the agent becomes a suspect in a plot to assassinate the president. George Nolfi wrote the script.
Basinger would star as the first lady and Sutherland as an agent of dubious loyalty.
Clark Johnson ("S.W.A.T.") is attached to direct the project for Fox-based Regency Enterprises.
Douglas most recently starred in "The In-Laws," and Basinger in "Cellular." Sutherland stars in Fox's "24," which recently kicked off its fourth season. |
