Lazy Afternoon

It's a lazy afternoon

And the beetle bugs are zooming

And the tulip trees are blooming

And there's not another human in view,

But us two

It's a lazy afternoon

And the farmer leaves his reaping

In the meadow cows are sleeping

And the speckled trouts stop leaping up stream

As we dream

A far pink cloud hangs over the hill

Unfolding like a rose

If you hold my hand and sit real still,

You can hear the grass as it grows

It's a hazy afternoon

And I know a place that's quiet,

Except for daisies running riot

And there's no one passing by it to see

Come spend this lazy afternoon with me

My father song

Whatever you are youíre goiní to be

Whatever you are is all right with me

Youíre gonna be what you want anyway

These are the words I heard my father say

When I was a young girl

And shy of men

He said when youíre ready

Youíll know just when

And when I was taken and thrown away

There wasnít a reason to face the day

And he said: 'Whatever you are youíre goiní to be

Whatever you are is all right with me

Youíre gonna be what you want anyway'

These are the words I heard my father say

My fatherís song is clear and easy

And though heís gone he lives in my heart

When I go wrong

I swear he sees me

And he smiles for a star,

And he says:' Wherever you are

Iím here by your side

My life is a rope that wonít come untied

Oh, Iím gonna stand by you right or wrong'

These are the words within

My fatherís song

Uh...

These are the words within

My fatherís song

By the way

By the way did I hear you say

If some night I seem too lonely

You would stay

Oh and by the way

Have I told you yet that only recently

He moved out on me

Took the towels we stole

From some motel in Tennessee

He was gone long before he really left

I knew it ...

By the way

He began to say:

'Love takes time, Iím in a hurry'

Anyway thatís all yesterday

Letís get back to us

Why worry?

If you try calling by and by

Oh, and by the way

I thought I mention

You canít stay...

Neath the lights

You donít look a thing like he did

And itís time to play

Itís another day

Why canít we make love fall

By the way?

Sayiní right out of my life

Into anotherís arms

Heíll soon be walkiní (Soon be walkiní)

Somebody shake me (Shake me)

Wake me (Wake me)

When itís over (When itís over)

Somebody tell me (Tell me)

Am I dreaming? (Dreaming)

When itís over (When itís over)

They say our love ainít

What it used to be

And everyone knows but me

I close my eyes not wanting to hear

But the words are loud and clear

(Ah ah ah ah!)

Through these walls so thin

I hear my neighbors when

They said donít love Ďer (He donít love Ďer)

They say my heartís in danger

'Cause youíre leaving me

For the love of a stranger (Love of a stranger)

Somebody shake me (Shake me)

Wake me (Wake me)

When itís over (When itís over)

Somebody tell me (Tell me)

Am I dreaming? (Dreaming)

When itís over (When itís over)

Youíre just what my heart desires

My whole world you inspire

I canít bear I think Iím losing you

'Cause Iíve loved you my whole life through

Through these walls so thin

I hear my neighbors when

They said he donít love Ďer (He donít love Ďer)

Oh no! They say my heartís in danger

'Cause youíre leaving me

For the love of a stranger (Love of a stranger)

Somebody shake me (Wake me)

Oh Shake me (Wake me)

Shake me (Shake me)

Shake me (Shake me)

Shake me (Shake me)

Oh somebody (Wake me)

When itís over (When itís over)

Somebody tell me (Tell me)

Am I dreaming? (Dreaming)

When itís over (When itís over)

Somebody wake me (Shake me)

Wake me shake me (Shake me)

Wake me shake me (Wake me)

When itís over (When itís over)

(Wake me shake me) Shake me somebody

Tell me that Iím dreaming...

I never had it so good

I never had much money

I never won a race

My jokes donít end that funny

And I had door slammed on my face

But I think youíve charmed me

I always hoped that someone would

I never had a love like this before

No... I never had it so good

Iím not the type thatís trusted

Always tripping over logs

And often Iíve been busted

And chased by friendly dogs

But I think youíve charmed me

I always hoped that someone would

I never had a love like this before

No... I never had it so good

Hmm...

But I think youíve charmed me

I always hoped that someone would

I never had a love like this before

No... I never had it so good

Letters that cross in the mail

Last month

While thinking of love

I wrote him some words and mailed them away

But the next day

I found at my door a letter from Spain

Heíd sent long before

And itís not read

I havenít heard from you in weeks

I must assume that you no longer care

Too bad thatís it, goodbye

Itís just amazing

How loving can fail

From letters that cross in the mail

A life, a love, a chance to win it all

Can pass you by, in the far gone seen

And you think youíll find your fate tomorrow night

And he finds somebody else in-between

I sat with swords in my heart

And pen in a hand

I wrote Iím glad that weíre through

Full of hate I mailed it

But then in a week a letter arrived

With love did it speak

I loved the tender words you sent

It seems I wronged you please forgive me

Iíll return by ship real soon

But I know now that heíll never sail

Our letters will cross in the mail

Itís just amazing

How time brings a loss

And loving can fail

Like letters that cross in the mail...

You and I

Here we are

On Earth together

Itís you and I

God has mad us fall in love

Itís true

Iíve really found

Someone like you

Will it stay

The love you feel for me

And will you say

That you will be by my side

To see me through

Until my life is through

And in my mind

We can conquer the world

In love you and I

You and I,

You and I...

Iím glad

At least in my life

Iíve found someone

That may not be here forever

To see me through

But I found strength in you

I only pray that I have shown you

A brighter day

Because thatís all that I am living for

You see

Donít worry what happens to me

'Cause in my mind

You will stay here always

In love you and I

You and I, you and I

You and I, you and I

You and I

In my mind

We can conquer the world

In love you and I

You and I, you and I

You and I...

Moanin' low

I feel too bad

Iím feeling mighty sick and sore

So bad I feel

I said Iím feeling sick and sore

And so afraid

My man donít love me no more

Moaniní low

My sweet man I love him so

Though heís mean as can be

Heís the kind of man

Who needs the kind of woman like me

I wanna die

If sweet man should pass me by

If I doubt where heíd be

Heís the kind of man

Who needs the kind of woman like me

Donít know any reason why he treats me so poorly

What have I gone and done

Makes my trouble double

With these worries when surely

I ainít deservin' it none

Moaniní low

My sweet man is gonna go

When he goes oh Lordy

Heís the kind of man

Who needs the kind of a woman like me

Donít know any reason why he treats me so coolly

What have I gone and done

He makes my trouble double

With these worries when surely

I ainít deserving enough

Moaniní low

My sweet man is gonna go

When he goes oh Lordy

Heís the kind of man

Who needs the kind of a woman like me.

A child is born

A child is born

Weíve suddenly stepped through

A thousand dolls

A child is born

Her chin is like mine

But her eyes are yours

How perfectly formed are her fingers

So far to reach, so much to know

What words will be formed by her fingers

Weíll hold her close

Then let her go

How sweet to find

A part of ourselves

We knew nothing of

A child is born

A child that is born of our love

Widescreen

There are songs that sound like movies

There are themes that fill the screen

There are lines I say that sound as if theyíre written

There are looks I wear the theater should have seen

But though Iíve made my life a movie

The matinee must end by five

And I must stagger out into the blinding sunlight half alive

Wishing I were back inside the picture show

There where itís always night

Notice how the screen is wide

The second role Iíve said around too tight

Will I stay? Yes, I might

Oh widescreen wider on my eyes

Lie my mind with lies

Find the world like nothing that Iíve seen

Oh widescreen dreams are just my sighs

As we walk from out the movie

Are we acting out a scene

Does the orchestra play chords when we start loving?

Do we move just like slow motion on the screen?

Lifeís a constant disappointment

When you live on celluloid

But my movie expectations are a dream I canít avoid

Waiting for a man to say the things that I heard in the film last night

But he doesnít want to play the role

And he canít pick his cues up right

Will I dream? Yes, I might!

Oh widescreen winding round my eyes

Blinding me with lies

Finding Iíve been fooled by what Iíve seen

No, widescreen dreams are more than you

How can lies be true?

All we have is life and mind

And love we find with a friend

Oh let the movie end...
