  • Posted By: Figment! @ 10:31 PM | Disney Veteran Ed Grier Named President of the Disneyland Resort Ed Grier, a 25-year Disney veteran who most recently oversaw the company's operations of Tokyo Disney Resort, has been named President of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., it was announced today by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo.

  • Grier, 51, will report to Al Weiss, President of Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

  • He replaces Matt Ouimet, who is leaving Disney to join Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

  • Grier's replacement at Tokyo Disney Resort will be named at a later date.

  • The velvety, eternally-adolescent, ever-effective rasp of Sterling Holloway has enlivened more Disney animated shorts, featurettes and features than most any other voice.

  • "I started in show business when I was 15 years old, " recalled Holloway for the Disney Publicity Department, "by enrolling in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

  • I wrote my mother about it and she wanted to know what they were doing to me out here." Although Holloway's first Disney work was in Dumbo (1941), Walt Disney was an admirer of the actor's vocal work as early as 1934 when the producer was developing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

  • In those early days of creating the Dwarfs, Disney designated voice talent to help indicate the personalities of the seven little men.

  • Though Holloway did not play that role (Studio musician/gagman Pinto Colvig provided the vocal honors for Sleepy in addition to voicing Grumpy), it's evident that Disney was very aware of Holloway's vocal talent, perhaps from the actor's radio work.

  • Jumbo and then dutifully sings "Happy Birthday" that Holloway finally made his Disney debut.

  • This brief vocal appearance in the least vocal of Disney's feature is also Holloway's subtlest, least "Sterling Holloway-like" performance: one has to listen carefully to the grown Flower's lines to even realize that it is Holloway's voice.
