August
4th, 2006 - As reported today at www.fiawtcc.com,
the official FIA WTCC website, BMW Team Italy-Spain’s Alessandro Zanardi and SEAT
Sport’s Yvan Muller were summoned by the stewards after the collision
happened between them in race 1 at Puebla.
According to the news Alessandro received "the majority of the
blame" and "he was given a suspended penalty of five positions meaning that should he be involved in another collision at Brno he will be dropped by five positions on the grid for
Valencia’s Race 1. Otherwise his penalty will be scrapped. Muller also received
blame, but was not punished".
During the second race Zanardi and Muller collided again and both
retired.
The episodes happened at Puebla were the probable consequence of the
penultimate lap accident of race1 at Oschersleben
when Alessandro crashed into Muller's SEAT in the unsuccessful try to
reach the 8th place and consequently race 2 pole.
Surely the stewards did the right thing summoning the two drivers after
race 1 at Puebla but their final decision is at least incredible being clear for everybody that Zanardi was the "injured party" and
Muller the responsible of the accident!
Is not possible to tell if Yvan Muller crashed into Zanardi on purpose
as a revenge of what happened at Oschersleben or because of the slippery
condition of the track -only Yvan can explain- but is evident that
Muller pushed Alessandro into a spin.
The incredible decision took by the stewards could be the reason why
Alessandro took the start of race 2 clearly angry and the second
accident happened with Muller could be the consequence of the injustice
suffered by him.
The decision to give him "the majority of the blame"
after he spun in race 1 is a total nonsense and BMW Team Italy-Spain
should appeal and defend his driver from that unfair sentence.
